As far as I know is the difference between the versions that the lite variant does not come with any OS preloaded. Which means it is smaller but any selected OS must be downloaded first. So an Internet connection is mandatory.

And I'm not quite sure, but I think Noobs is not actively being developed anymore. But there is PINN https://github.com/procount/pinn which also has a greater selection of systems. You can check https://pinn.mjh.nz/ to see what OS is available for your Pi.

@oathbetrayer The Docs have a section for getting started. You don't need NOOBS for RetroPie, you can just flash/install the latest image and it will be enough to get you started.

If you want RetroPie now you can install it. The master branch works fine on my 4. Refer to the manual install guide to get started.

@mitu yeah that could work, if someone is savvy enough to be wanting to change configs and such, then they would in theory have the know-how to get the pi online and ssh in anyway. I might have to have a play, see what happens

@usarmyvet said in NOOBS distro scraper issue and game saves:

However, I now run into the issue where when I attempt a scrape, it kicks me out of emulation station and into terminal and says "no space allowed" . I was told its because its a NOOBS distro?

Update all installed packages and try again. You might be using an older version of Emulationstation.

5.1GB sounds odd, I'm sure I read that you were using an 16GB SD card. It sounds like it hasn't expanded the filesystem. You can do this from inside raspi-config. select Advanced Options, Expand Filesystem

@Danorak1981 First off don't use NOOBS. If you are going to install KODI on a separate card you should use a lightweight JEOS (Just enough operating system) for it. The most popular / supported are OSMC and Librelec.

Maybe go with Librelec as OSMC has a lot of customisations peculiar to itself.

I've not used a wireless controller with KODI, so can't advise but I would always advise people to have a USB keyboard for the PI as it always comes in handy.

The best smartphone app for controlling KODI is the official KORE app, another is YATSE but it is a bit bloated these days. Also bear in mind I stopped using a phone app for KODI as it eats battery life like crazy as it works over the wireless network and is constantly broadcasting a WiFi signal. You should get a mini keyboard like the Rii i8+, I have one for each of my KODI Pis.

@dankcushions I tried a different random rom (1080 snowboarding) and it was fine. if those settings aren't 1s I should look at can you suggest others that may help better? I've read about overclocking the pi3 but that seems a bit drastic this early on.

I've changed to hi res emulator and 1280x720 50hz and conquers ran alright at the beggining but starting to get laggy again just before the menu. lots more playing will come i'm sure now I'm getting far more familiar with things.

Kinda eager to play some games... I have not played NES games since probably the early '90s.

I think I also saw somewhere that this will play old Tandy TRS-80 games? That's what I started on back when I was about 5yrs old... doubt the games are as fun as I remembered, but looking forward to playing this game again.

Toilet paper, zombies, aliens... game had it all....
