I don't know much about it since i don't own an orange pi but have always been interested in getting one just for fun. It seems like a common thing that people are repurposing products with free software from others, as well as partially releasing unfinished products with out support.

Skipping "The" in sorting game titles in EmulationStation?

I found the emulationstation-dev branch to be a bit unstable for my likings. For some reason, that build of Emulationstation causes an error with the ALSA sound driver that I wasn't able to resolve. Reverting back to the default build of emulationstation eliminated the error.

So, I had to come up with a bit of a compromise for sorting. I was able to address alpha/numeric ordering (e.g. 1, II, 3 instead of 1, 3, II) by using a strategically placed, non-visible "zero-width space" character (&#8203;). For example, the <name> text for the Mortal Kombat arcade games might be:

      <name>Mortal Kombat</name> <name>Mortal Kombat II</name> <name>Mortal Kombat &#8203;3</name>

The zero-width space HTML entity will not render in the UI of Emulationstation and it's ASCII value is greater than an alphanumeric character. So, when sorting alphabetically, this eliminates the MK, MK3, MKII issue and correctly moves MK3 after MKII.

This character can be used multiple times and in other scenarios, such as ensuring "Leisure Suit Larry in The Land of the Lounge Lizards" (LSL1) gets sorted before "Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love (In Several Wrong Places)" (LSL2). The word "in" can be sorted before the word "goes" by using this method. It also allows somewhat arbitrary sorting.

I'm not sure how this affects other areas of Emulationstation. I just know that it is an alternative. One downside is not being able to easily handle sorting articles in the title, such as The and A. Using this zero-width space character at the beginning of every title would be cumbersome and difficult to maintain.

@gameguru the only trouble you'll run into is monetisation issues. YouTube is built on people playing games. YouTube has built in code to detect when you're playing copyrighted content and then they automatically put ads up on your video but instead of you getting monetisation it goes to Nintendo.

The way around this is to play gameplay of multiple games so multiple companies have claim which means none of them can monetise on your video as YouTube can't give preferential treatment.

Just in case you were curious anyways... Another way around it would be to mute the gameplay as well I believe

I am back, well rested and ready to go on what could be my final attempt before I give up.

      9:52pm
-What I did different, formatted RP Micro SD card to FAT32 (32gb card) previously was ntfs, I don't even know if it matters. I'm unplugging my ethernet wire. I'm transferring the rom folders that screwed it up in the first place, first.

Transferring over 3 'problem' folders first, plugging external into pi. works, transferring over every rom folder but about 4 now.

      10:26pm
      3. mostly all rom folders are transferred, about to test it now.
      4. boost file system error as seen above..... i dont know what to do.

@jell no. You can change video mode - and if your TV can switch based on that, then maybe. But the rpi can't specifically control various TV model settings.

Ok I think I finally fixed it to the point where it doesn't make me angry. I decided to try someone else's config.txt as mine was cursed or something :P I went here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6hdpa7893c3ked1/AABCXqUHjXI-C3PUdcq4f8jya?dl=0 and downloaded the "custom_res" config. I renamed it to "config.txt", changed the resolution to 320x240, and added some custom overscan numbers. The lines are still there, but they don't affect the text and only appear on a black screen. I'm sure I could go further and 100% fix it but right now I'm happy. Whew!

@itsnitro said in Another RetroPie Incident (Maybe?):

Alright, so Pierre isn't a bad guy and is just giving Unbox Therapy a review version.
But could this be an issue anyway? Should we go contact Unbox Therapy about it?

That French guy has an account here too, I forgot his forum handle but I remember him posting a prototype version of this unit on the forum longtime ago. You probably still can find it if you search for it.

@loubron Google hide boot text then you can use run command to hide the emulator options. There is a kids mode but it's in beta effectively in experimental packages. I would study the wiki a lot of the info is there. You will not get perfect experiance but you can get bloody dame close
