@mediamogul Actually a really good idea. You can also buy "dead" OEM controllers, or third party controllers from eBay for the parts and mix and match until it is good. I did that with my Logitech PS2 controller. Except for the L3 button it works excellently now.

In my arcade build i found the fan that came with the flat pack kit was really loud when run from full power. It was a 12v fan. So i just found a left over 5v power brick and connected that to the fan and it runs about half speed, just the perfect amount of air flow without the noise.

@mitu thanks for the answer, but not exactly what I meant...

I'll explain myself...I have a custom board that uses the exact same pinout from the link I posted, that same pinout is the same as recalbox which now can simply toggle to activate it

My question is if that can still be made in Retropie like the tutorial I posted or if there's newer ways to do it (and maybe simpler?)

Got curious and tried it out with mame2003 and advancemame and it's way to laggy. To bad cause it seems like a good fighting game.

@livefastcyyoung Ok, 300$ is nice. I hope you won't have too many issues though (300$ for a recent device which is still sold around 700$ is kinda fishy)

@dmwisniewski You're better off running finalburn alpha or mame2003. I usually use fba until I find a game that runs faster in mame2003. Or if a game is exclusive to mame.

Also is there any where that describes what cores are best?

yes, retropie's defaults :) you can look at individual system wiki pages to see more information about what the different cores entail.

@domogram-rovers You'll have to talk to @meleu about that, he's the only one I know who can do the trick.

For the first installation a wireless keyboard is ok or not??

If you can have SSH access to the device, then it will work, but you'll need to connect to the PI over SSH and pair the keyboard so it will be connected to the PI.

i was busy chatting with him.

In the circles we swim in, he's become somewhat of a celebrity. Did he strike you as a down-to-earth kinda guy? I remember reading about the portable 2600 he made nearly twenty years ago and desperately wanting one. What did you two talk about?

There's no way to know for sure, but the chances are generally good, as a lot of work has gone into making RetroPie, Emulation Station and RetroArch as controller friendly as possible. Do you have a link to the specific controller you're considering?

    @iain few things of note:

If you're buying a kit stick with something like the canakit. Don't spend money on any kits that have retropie preloaded as it is a breach of software licences to sell retropie not to mention you don't know what else people have done to it, so when it breaks you're SOL, plus nobody here will support 3rd party images.

Also stick with the official docs, YouTube videos become quickly outdated (mine included!)

This should give you everything you need to know to get you started:

@jonnykesh said in Super Mario Land 2 DX is out!:

Patches are not subject to copyright.

Just as a point of interest, any creative intellectual work is automatically protected by copyright when it is created under US law since 1978. This would obviously vary from country to country, but the patches in question would indeed fall under protection in certain areas of the world. One particularly relevant violation that comes to mind is a limited print run of 'Cheetah Men II' that utilized a fan-made patch from romhacking.net without permission for monetary gain. The people responsible actually owned the full rights to the game and the accompanying intellectual property, so I imagine they just assumed they had the right to use the patch as well.
