@sfriedrich the ps4 controller is supported. You can either use a micro usb cable or sync it up via Bluetooth. To do that, you have to put the controller into sync mode by holding the share and PS buttons down until the light on top starts flashing. Go to the retropie menu and then Bluetooth, and sync it up. It will come up as “wireless controller”, then just configure it as you would any controller in emulation station.
And no you don’t have to use a systems original controller. you can use any controller usb or Bluetooth , including ps3. Retropie makes a mapping for each emulator to use your controller that you are using. You just have to configure it in emulation station.

The image we provide is Raspbian Lite with RetroPie pre-installed. Much of the software included in the RetroPie image have non-commercial licences. Because of this selling a pre-installed RetroPie image is not legal

Reading up on the issue, this seems to be a well-known problem. If you attack a wanzer with the legs blown off, the game will freeze. Not really, I'm not sure which version you have installed or what emulator you're using (EmulationStation is only a front-end which launches the actual emulators for the game).

What game are you playing ? If you take out the amplifier and connect the audio directly to a headphone/speaker do you get the same problem.

No offence taken, and it's normal that is runs better, since the performance requirements are lower. This is why it's still available in RetroPie.

For who is interested, I have build Mesa 22.0.1, SDL 2.0.20 and EmulationStation from source code on latest Raspberry Pi OS Lite and all work as expected (Full KMS and other stuff)

You may try starting the game with mame2003-plus (mame2003 might also work) and use the Mame mapping menu (hit Tab on an attached keyboard) for the game. The up/down movements of the gun are mapped to a couple of Paddle inputs, which you can assign to the 2nd joystick of the player.

@barbudreadmon Assuming you are referring to the Turbo setting under P1 control mappings (I'm not in front of it and don't recall the exact name), I have tried setting that to match the one in the turbo menu. No success there.

No, I didn't say that. Skyscraper needs 2 passes to actually generate a gamelist

first run to do the scraping from the scraping site and save it into the cache (this is where it saves the artwork as a 'random numbers/letters' file, the cache). The forcefilename flag has no effect here. 2nd run to generate the gamelist from the cache - this is where you can use forcefilename flag.

I suggest you take a look again at Skyscraper's docs and see how it should be used.

The gamepad configuration is fine, there must be something in the configuration for RetroArch that's not correct.
Can you run a game with verbose logging post the resulting log file (/dev/shm/runcommand.log) on pastebin.com ?
