Follow-up: I did some more digging and read somewhere on the xpadneo github that they have a hypseus module in the code. I never thought to try hypseus, I guess I had it stuck in my mind that Daphne was "the" laserdisc emulator. I installed hypseus and it works with the Xbone controller. I only had to configure the select and start buttons. The exit as configured in ES (start + select) works as well. In Daphne the start+select to exit didn't work and I had to configure another button.

Big props to @DirtBagXon, I found your github and followed the instructions: https://github.com/DirtBagXon/hypseus-singe. Thank you thank you thank you.

I hope this helps anyone else stumbling into this issue. I like my xbone controllers and am trying to get away from Xbox 360 controllers + dongle.

TLDR: Xbox One controllers will not work with Daphne. Use hypseus.

Just an update on this, even after installing the new Flycast, I still get what I can describe as "screen tearing" or glitching when motion is happening. This isn't consistent, so maybe it's related to framerate drops?

I am using a Pi4 8GB without any mods, just stock settings for performance.

FYI proper save state support for Bubble Bobble and the other game in that driver Tokio wasn't added until a much later version of MAME
0.135u2: Fabio Priuli added save state support to Bubble Bobble driver.

@niyoki said in lr-caprice32 select + start combo triggers 2 actions = Virtual Keyboard & Exit command?:

    Hello,
On the Amstrad CPC Lr- caprice32 emulator: if I press gamepad select + start buttons combo, those are triggering two actions at the same time.
Emulator exiting back to the game selection screen on the emulationstation and virtual keyboard for before the emulator exiting.
Because of this behavior I can't use the virtual keyboard.

@AEtherScythe after you change the configuration to swap buttons, I believe you also have to remap the controller in emulation station for it to work properly. Hope that helps.

@saki I don't know what fruitbox is. Default themes are in /etc/emulationstation/themes which is not backed up over the network share but you can copy (or move) them into the "custom" location at /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/themes and they will be included.

Yep. Standard gnome ubuntu. Tried it with both wayland and X sessions.
Same problem though. Stutter won't go away.
Note that the stutter also affects sound. It's not a simple TV mode that's causing tearing. My TV is using Game mode.
