    @gorf said in Can't get older ROM's to appear in the GUI.:

    The contents of most of the directories of roms are full of .bin files. Trying to run the latest version of Mame on my laptop (Arch Linux) with a few test roms seems to be... uh, odd. It gives me a huge list of games that I don't have. And doesn't seem to see the test roms I setup.

    You need to filter the list by the 'available' games, I think by default MAME will list all the games it knows about.

    I've seen several people mention on this forum older versions of Mame. But the main Mame site has a LOT of older releases. I'm not sure I understand which versions I should try against. All of them? Yikes!

    Matching random ROMs to a MAME release is pointless, since the ROMs don't have a version attached. The recommended method is to get the ROMs for the version supported by the MAME version you have/intend to use - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/ and the links from that page.

    @efriim said in Can I Set the Disc Control Directory?:

    @alphabetapie

    There are other default folders that can be set maybe it is one of those. It could be non-implimented though.

    I actually tried pulling the retroarch.cgf file and copying/pasting the folder I wanted it to open to to every single line that mentioned anything about a directory. That did change them all in the directory list when I loaded back into Retroarch, but disc control still defaults to the root of the main rom folder. Will have to track down the retroarch folks and ask them.

    @mitu
    exactly. Besides the base installation and Retropie i only installed git dialog unzip xmlstarlet lightdm openbox and ubuntu-drivers-common. Made that up for a friend of mine who is absolutely clueless when it comes to computers. The idea is "USB stick in, turn on PC = Retropie / USB stick out, turn on PC = Windows"

    But i found a solution 20 minutes ago. By accident more or less TBH. I was snooping around in the file manager included in the Retropie menu, actually not knowing what i was looking for and realized that the screen looks different from what i saw on Raspberry Pi. I navigated to dolphin-emu, executed it and voilà, there it is.

    Weird... Maybe someone more experienced could satisfy my curiosity and explain why this works through file manager but not through the console.

  • Will the Disc in the Tray (Disc Control) Ever Reset?

    @alphabetapie said in Will the Disc in the Tray (Disc Control) Ever Reset?:

    I just noticed that if I use disc control for any of my cue/m3u files (PlayStation, Sega CD, etc), it will stay load with whatever disc I left in the "drive" at last boot. Is there a setting I can turn on or config file I can edit that will force it to refresh and default back to disc 1 by default? Even if I choose the first disc from the game menu, it'll tell me disc 2 is in the drive at first launch (that happens after both a system restart and shut down).

    I know this is probably a niche request, and may not even be part of the official build. If not, I just wont' worry about it and manually set my disc via the disc control if needed. Just want to make sure I'm not overlooking a simple setting that will reset/default the disc control back to disc 1 always at first launch (to help those less-tech savy people that might play these when I'm not around). Any thoughts?

    @mahoneyt944

    Finally resolved this! Thanks for all the help.

    For future people encountering this problem, the issue was the iPac Ultimate IO not playing well with the PS4 Gamepad I had plugged into it. I was using them simultaneously for setup and configuration. When I removed the PS4 Controller and only had the usb keyboard and the iPac plugged in it started to work just fine.

    RetroPie doesn't have any built-in support for an extra display for marquees - the solution you may have found is probably using its own theming capability that you can use.

    @jacreason Did you ever figure out how to do this. I just bought the same board and want to be able to two player xinput (gamepad) and also one player with two stick play if I can with it.

    @louf said in Which display resolution to use for widescreen TV with A/V output:

    Very annoyingly in the raspberry community commenting things out is treated as if it's a valid coding technique.

    The Setting is "disable_overscan" which can have one of two options "0" which translates to "False" and "1" which translates to "True"

    The settings default is "0" so by commenting it out, it effectively does not read it, and it defaults to "0"

    Hope that makes it a bit easier to understand.

    @redec easiest way is when you hold a button to configure, the name that shows up. If they match, then they are using the same encoder. Most of the cheap chinese brand controllers tend to use the same one cause its probably cheap and easy to use, but there is never any consistency on what phyiscal buttons are mapped to what virtual buttons on the encoder.

    ok I'm an idiot....I didn't realize when I first mapped my ps3 control to retropie - that the ps3 controller numbers are right there as well..dpad up is 13, dpad 14, then I just needed to go to the dapinput.ini and add 1 to all the numbers since 0 is an unmapped number

    @unknown FYI. The Famicom disk system (the floppy disk thing) also uses the same NES emulators
