@anasazi29 I think i just give up on this project, upgraded the controller and connected it to the raspberry. Emulationstation DOES indeed find a controller connected to the USB port, but no matter what do i can't configure it.

@lilbud best be telling the author. Closed source. Nothing we can do about it.

more streamlined and I think 'bind' in the first of the three additional lines was the cause.

@columboscoat It might be because I followed this guide; http://linuxg.net/how-to-properly-remove-lxde-and-install-xfce-on-raspbian-debian-for-raspberry-pi/ which has you remove LXDE and then install xfce, but the thing is I've followed that before and I could always just startxfce4 fine afterwards, maybe something to do with a newer retropie version removing lxde breaks this method?

will try again without doing that, just wanted to slim things down as much as possible.

@edmaul69 Ugh, sorry about the typos. Power supply is definitely 5v 2.5a (included in my RP kit) I also tried another 5v 5a supply, and the USB connection on the breakout box which is 5v 1a and actually works fine (though I use the kit supply in the permanent installation).

If anything downstream of the PI is PCM rather than Bitstream, it causes problems, so if anyone finds this in a search, make sure that your TV and audio system are all set to Bitstream.

Debug mode didn't help with finding a solution.

delete es_input.cfg won't work. I tried so many times. The instruction above remove all the controllers.

i just follow your suggest.... in both ways, with 4 reboot...
reconfig first joystick... reboot... plug keyboard.. reboot...

in the linux prompt.. /dev/input/js0 is always the keyboard.... :(

@Citro Figured out the issue. Had nothing to do with the emulator; for some reason, the affected roms were 0Kb in size... not sure what happened, but when I re-copied roms to the Pi, they worked perfectly.
