    Hi @sleve_mcdichael ,

    Thanks for your input. I actually can see that my rom zip has unibios 3.2, so if I select that in the dipswitch, it properly boots to unibios. From there, I can select AES mode, so that's good enough for me.

    Thanks!

    @arcanthur loop Thanks for your great effort. Could you share me your scraped image and bezel? My image does not fit a grid entirely.

    so nice!! I cant wait to see it finished and hope you will share it then too! So far I have tweaked a neogeo theme from here from ruckage but I think i much prefer this style to go with the aes (i think the red with white stripes mvs is more suited for the arcade machine)

    I will keep an eye out on this, love it so far!

    @luckyluca said in Why separate Neo Geo system from Arcade?:

    When making a copy of the core options to neogeo-core-options.cfg and changing to AES as suggested, should I also copy and add all fbneo core lines (there are plenty including lots of per-game dipswitches, one for each game executed)?

    It's been a while when configuring it, I had just copied the entire file and made it act like an independent emulator. I actually don't know if RetroPie or fbneo will look for in "/opt/retropie/configs/fba/" first, if you load up a game from Neo Geo systems folder. If that is the case, then you can only include the differences you want to have in "/opt/retropie/configs/neogeo/neogeo-core-options.cfg" . If RetroPie requires you to have two different files, then you are probably out of luck.
    Or you can try to use the "include" statement on top of the neogeo-core-options.cfg to point to the file from fba. But I don't know if this works.

    As a sidenote, when looking through my old Raspberry Pi 3 installation backups, I don't see any neogeo-core-options.cfg files anymore, but retroarch-core-options.cfg. Not sure if the tutorial is outdated. Sorry for the late reply and I hope you get it working.

    Also, would it be problematic using a rom not ending with h in AES neogeo mode?

    Not at all. This was just my personal decision to use these specific versions of the ROMs. Although I couldn't spot any differences tbh

    With your help, I finally tested this (so far with one game each system, but there should be no reason why the other games don't work as intended now) successfully. But there is a mistake in your posting.

    @mitu said in AES/MVS in FBA and Neo Geo system, want two different settings:

    modify the system's retroarch.cfg and add core_options_file = `/opt/retropie/configs/<SYSTEM>/retroarch-core-options.cfg`

    The emulator does not seem to read from this setting, but there is already an existing setting for this file. Instead of core_options_file look for core_options_path. This worked for me. Anyway, thousands of thanks, as this was the last riddle in the Neo Geo mystery to me and I tried to figure this out since month! I am really happy now.

    @clyde That's alright.

    I do want to do the soft links again for another ROM related project in the future. So I would love to remove that copying and pasting step. The project would be simply to make a separate system for GB and GBC games that have two player game link support between two identical games with, obviously, lr-tgbdual as the emulator. Of course, this being GB and GBC, the identical copies wouldn't be as bad space-wise as Neo Geo was.
