@raulitob Check if you have a custom es_systems.cfg in /home/pi/.emulationstation/ and rename it, then restart Emulationstation. If you have the right ROMs in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/coleco, then the system should show up in Emulationstation.
There is another - actively maintained - web manager for RetroPie, you should check out Webtropie.

You nailed the concern on this perfectly by describing the fact the Colecovision, Intellivision and Atari 5200 (CX52) have very similar controllers. What I really wish is that the three communities would get together and do a Kickstarter or GoFundMe to develop an improved, common controller that can be used with all three systems. I don't know what other consoles used a numeric keypad as part of the controller. It's fairly unique compared to all modern controllers made in the last 35 years. I think when NES came out in 1985, those type controllers started to disappear from production. By thinking in terms of a common controller for all three systems, it seems a lot more feasible to do than just going it alone for just one system.

My idea would be to make the controller flexible to serve all three consoles. I'm an Intellivision fan, so the numeric touchscreen could be flipped upside down (software config) for Colecovision and Atari 5200 fans whose controllers had the numeric keypad on the bottom (the three buttons above the CX52 joystick would have to be combined onto the 15-button touchscreen - a compromise). The four side buttons could be near the middle of the controller (another compromise). Both ends of the controller would have ports for connection to the homebrew console or PC with different cable adapters. Configuration software would be created to program the controller to immediately act as a duplicate of one of the three console's controllers. The directional disc itself could be configurable with attachments to closely represent each console.

@majestyx okay do this...put the roms into the the colecovision folder NOT the MSX folder. .now make the blueMSX emulator the default (pressing a button right after loading the rom..then the first choice from the list..

after that it will load just fine and simply...

@dcm91 I really don't know where the gamelist.xml will be placed because I have no idea how this image is set up. These files can go in 2 places, within each system ROM folder or in /home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists/systemname. Or at least that's where they go in the standard image. They could be absolutely anywhere on a custom image. You'll just have to try it and see.

Pre-made. Bought off eBay already set up (minus ROMS and two emulators I'm trying to install

They sold you retropie illegally https://retropie.org.uk/about/legal/ . You'll have to ask the seller for support as we have no idea what they have done to it.

@hurricanefan @herb_fargus i updated retropie setup and coolcv and the audio is fine. @HurricaneFan can you press start in emulationstation and go into sound settings and verify the volume is at 100% and not 77% ? Some coleco games arent very loud in the first place.

      FIXED!

It was so simple to fix this. It appears that the es_systems.cfg file was not updating when the new emulator was installed, so I just had to delete the old one and it created a file on reboot.

OK, I see the coolcv_x86_64 and coolcv_i686 binaries in the latest "all" bundle.
Not sure how I missed this earlier.
In any case, coolcv isn't enabled on retropie x86, so I can't install it from the retropie_setup as it doesn't show up in any of the package lists.

Might be worth adding now? Perhaps try to determine which build would be required (i686,x86_64) at module install time?
Or perhaps just go with i686 for compatibility? (I hardly think it's going to stress the computer's memory :) )

@doctorstork Below that it details information you should provide when asking for help - I have no idea what your set-up is. I also posted a link which says where to copy the bios etc - the emulator is installable from retropie-setup as detailed in the installation instructions https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/#installing-additional-emulators

@barbudreadmon I also hear the bluemsx is capable of emulating colecovision ;) just needs some controller hooks.

This would be a more viable option. Fba needs it's on romset for Colecovision.

With bluemsx you could just use the No-Intro set.

@SpudsMcToole just for the record even if it was a bug with coolcv there is nothing we can do about it as it's closed source. You may have luck getting a hold of Oscar the developer (nanochess) on the Atariage thread , possible someone else may have had the same issue and posted a fix. I haven't been over there in a while so idk
