@jedcooper Sorry, never got around to fixing it. My menu widgets are already disabled, but the issue persists. I'm assuming that it's a similar issue to the one people are reporting with widgets, but not sure what more to do with that information unfortunately.

My other approach.. has been to emulate SNES on my Wii, haha. For an unrelated matter, I'm getting a VGA666 board in the mail some time. I don't expect that it will make a difference with this particular issue, but I'll give it a try anyway and report back if it makes a difference.

@mitu Ahh thank you! I was trying to find where the autostart command was - but was looking in /home/pi in .bashrc, etc... I'll try one of those two solutions. Thanks again!

@louf said in Which display resolution to use for widescreen TV with A/V output:

Very annoyingly in the raspberry community commenting things out is treated as if it's a valid coding technique.

The Setting is "disable_overscan" which can have one of two options "0" which translates to "False" and "1" which translates to "True"

The settings default is "0" so by commenting it out, it effectively does not read it, and it defaults to "0"

Hope that makes it a bit easier to understand.

@retrochip said in Mupen64Plus problems (audio + video):

The only option I see so far is to use the 'Mupen64Plus SDL Audio Plugin' v2.5.9 plugin, but how do I do it? The script mupen64plus.sh should set it (am I wrong?), but if use the old one, it does not change anything and the 'Mupen64Plus SDL Audio Plugin' v2.5.9 plugin is still used.

it should. after a launch, what is the contents of /dev/shm/runcommand.info please?

      @ashpool

Thank you for all your help.

I ended up settling on Mode 51 (the largest 4:3) resolution the monitor will accept, and choosing a 4:3 Theme. This makes is look "close enough" for the ES look/feel. Because this will be all MAME games, I have to set the DMT for each one, so luckily any changes to ES doesn't affect the RetroArch settings.

As for the Screensaver and Splash screen (currently a static image), is I will over-squish them in an image editing program so that when they are displayed on the 4:3 setting, they will look like the correct aspect ratio. At least that is the plan.

Thank you all for the help, support, and guidance! My first build and so many online tutorials make it look SOOO easy, yet the online community has been there with support, tricks and tips, and overall welcoming acceptance of noobs. Thanks again!

This option seems to be fine for the resolution - are you using it as the current option or did you toggle widescreen on ?
When using a desktop environment, like on a PC, you can use xrandr to adjust the overscan:

@dclegend By default, there are no onstart, onend scripts - it's an extension that can be used by users to add their own customizations.

I've just installed LXDE and try again but nothing changes. I don't know if it helps but if i power off the display and/or detach from VGA it doesn't work; only thing is to close ES. I still think it is an ES issue...i don't know.

      I will do other tests.
      Thanks

@simpleethat thanks for the info. Yeah, they are both 16x9, 1080 is 1920x1080 and 720p is 1366x768. I think everything is set to 1920x1080 on my pi currently. Hoping to find out if I have to change any settings to step down to 1366x768 (720p) for proper framing?

@redfirebrooks said in Cant set resolution.. Really it is that easy ?:

i'd like to find a working out of box retrogaming system !

Well, RetroPie isn't meant to be one in every case and aspect. It's an community-driven, freely given DIY project.

That said, RP works ootb in many if not most cases. But if you happen to be one of the unlucky exceptions, you'll have to either put some time and effort into it, or move on to another system in the hope that that one won't have the same problems with your setup.

You're free to choose whatever suits your needs best, but complaining about it in every of your posts in this thread so far distracts you and everyone else who are willing to invest their spare time for your problems from actually working on a solution.

I have this same problem except some games work and others don't. For example Donkey Kong works but Ms Pacman give the error message "out of range change to 1600x1200 @60hz". This is with the same monitor Dell 2007fpb. I have tried changing individual setting for each game platform which doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.
      thanks
