      @psyke83 said in Error and GUI terminates back to ES when launching RetroPie-Setup direct on machine (libudev?) - but SSH is ok:

      @BuZz

      It looks like we might need to add a delay to the runcommand invocation as well?

      I implemented python-evdev support into the script: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/compare/master...psyke83:joy2key_evdev

      Tested it on Ubuntu 18.10, confirmed it to work well and eliminate the need for any delays... and then realized afterwards that Raspbian doesn't have this package :/

      It's possible to get on Raspbian via installing python-pip and then installing it that way, but python-pip requires 30MB or so of extra packages. A damn shame :(

      how about the idea of re-implementing joy2key in C and use libevdev/libudev directly? the binary would be much smaller and elegant than having the python interpreter :)
      joy2key doesn't seem to be too complex functionally speaking. In few weeks I will have much more time available and could help with this if interested.

      I take that back....http://www.arcadeitalia.net/ is down.

      On the plus side, enabling SSH allows me to use my PC keyboard and mouse with my Pie. Learn something new everyday, lol.

      I rebuilt my image using the Attract Mode build and updated everything following Floob's advice. I redid it last night from scratch - and editing the config.tx and cmdline.txt files were successful. I presume I must have missed something or other that caused an issue with the folders. I still need to try Cyberduck, but am now optimistic about being able to SSH.

      Hopefully it was just an issue with my install. Thank you for all of the help. Will keep you posted.

      @allen8

      If you're speaking about Kodi specifically, the key commands are actually universal between systems. Outside of that, they still remain very similar and sometimes even unchanged to those found elsewhere.

      @hailtostarscream If you wish to create a custom version of a theme, then you can create a copy of the theme folder from /etc/emulationstation/themes/ into /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/themes/. The themes folder may need to be created.

      Alternatively, you can download the theme from the relevant Github repo and place it in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/themes/. For example, the snes mini theme can be found at https://github.com/ruckage/es-theme-snes-mini.

      Hey @momaw27
      Have you tried overclocking your GPU ?
      The reason why I'm asking is because I experienced the same issue.... but after 5+ hours of screensaver.
      I tried a bunch of stuff... Regenerating and removing most of my gamelists, building Retropie from master, updating just about everything on my Pi, trying various settings in ES....
      And then I noticed a video glitch in the ES interface when a video preview started, then all the interface froze except for the preview.
      I changed my GPU overclock from 550 to 525 Mhz.... and no more freeze.
      I hope it helps

      @sano said in Unable to Use Hostname to SSH:

      You may also use a passphrase and an ssh agent to only have to type the passphrase once per user session ;)

      Correct, I had that in mind but didn't articulate it. Thanks for the addition. :)

      might not be related but when i shutdown and physically take the power off overnight. My wifi stops working i have to remove the usb dongal and put it in again for the system to work again. It doesnt do this everytime just most times it does. The thing is i have to shut my pie down because its in a bartop and there is no support to turn the monitor off just a screensaver that leaves the backlight on

      @natesroom sudo rm /home/pi/.kodi/userdata/guisettings.xml will remove the settings file and will create a default when you start kodi again.
      OR navigate to that file open it and change the skin (around line 139) setting to one you have installed. ie

      <skin>skin.estuary</skin>

      I just had the same problem, but I fixed it by enablling insecure guest access. See this link:

      @dieselhammer The genesis folder is a symlink to the megadrive one, that's why you got the error - you shouldn't have deleted the folder since you might have problems running the ROMs you'll be copying there.

      As far as the SSH problem is concerned - please answer the questions from https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first to have an idea how your system looks like.

      What are you using to SSH in the Pi? You should be using Terminal, comes pre-installed on all macs. Open terminal and type: ssh pi@192.168.5.25 (but use whatever your Pi's IP address is) password is: raspberry

      I was looking for a solution for ages. I found this page to be helpful.

      https://askubuntu.com/questions/344863/ssh-new-connection-begins-to-hang-not-reject-or-terminate-after-a-day-or-so-on

      By switching to netcat it now works without a problem.

      @edale you can go into retropie setup in the retropie menu in emulationstation and not have to do it through command line. But it is not neccessary to do it at all to set up the 8-bitdo controllers. Depending on the firmware you are using depends on if you use the hack or not. You do not have to set udev rules or go into retropie-setup.

      Nevermind I solved it by formatting the SD and using a fresh image of Retropie. Apparently that solved the issue. Also when I created the file on the root of the SD card in windows I typed random text in it and saved it. They said it only had to be named SSH but perhaps typing something in worked. Im not sure.
