Screen tearing is a issue of the Raspberry Buster Lite that the current RetroPie image is using. The upcoming version i think it will get rid from this issue.

Some users solved this issue, in the current version of RetroPie, after they use the experimental kms driver, but this add other issues. If you search in the forum about screen tearing you will find a lot of info. Also i recommend to read the wiki about the used of 4k TV with Rpi4: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Pi4/

@dankcushions Thanks, I'll try the video thing.
I'm very sorry to hear that the splash screen is not solved!
I'll wait for the next update.

Try using fbi, it's an image viewer that works on the console also.

Thanks that looks promising. I’ll have to see if there’s a way to control which display it outputs to.

@morugaskorpion general rule is, rpi4 will struggle with emulation tasks at 4k. you should force a 1080p60 mode via raspi-config.

@greenhawk84 to be clear they’re never going to fix dispmanx/omx support. these utilise features of the original closed source gpu firmware that they have replaced with an open, more standard linux solution. it’s not all bad news, though, as there’s typically an alternative solution (eg vlc rather than omx, but you may have to re-encode/replace your videos).

      Thanks everyone.

MK2 indeed worked better in lr-mame2010. Not quite as smooth as 2003 or 2016 with sound sync off (only noticable on the scrolling "tree" fighter lineup and the "insert coin to continue" slide-in... actual gameplay is great).

NBA Jam TE worked perfect in 2010.

@MorugaSkorpion Batocera doesn't have hardware video decoding, so much worse as a Media Center. Like said before, problem is only when navigating the interface, video plays fine without tearing.

if your happy with it all the retropie configuration to run it. im not sure if retropie 4.4 supports sdl2_opengles youll need to ask someone at retropie headquarters if they support this or have and intentions too. it runs very nice on a debian x64 :)

@chipsnblip I used this fan + case bundle, which has nothing special except it's low prize.
And about the hdmi mode, and basically everything else in the config file, I doubt it is related in any way to the problem because right now it is exactly as it was when the problem was fixed. Anyway, if you need an image, I post it wjen I have one.

      no m8...you were dead right.
I've switched to nachos ready made 128gb image and it uses different emulators for different games....
my 2 faves wonderboy and pac land use ir-mame2003 and the video has no tearing at all.
just need to swap the button setup and I'm all set....have tried every key on the keyboard and it doesnt seem to have a button to bring the menu up for swapping buttons around like advmame.
thanks for the help...really appreciate it.
