Thanks guys, autostart seems to load much faster now.
However, there is still the problem that "warp mode" is still seems to be turned on after the game starts.
I enabled the statusbar and it says that VICE is running at 187%
However, the asterisk in the emulator-menu for warp mode is not showing.

Maybe using a fastload .crt is a solution.
However i still don't get it that the builds for Pi and Win are so different in their behaviour.

@Marcone698 Please read the link again (for next time):

RetroPie Version Used (3.6, 3.8.1, 4.01 etc.. - do not write latest)

but yes, -chdir is the correct option (which we use when launching normally).

@sancho1234 You will need to overclock. Also make sure sid emulation is set to "fast mode" and not accurate. You may want to consider a rpi3 though for c64 emulation (if you want accuracy etc).

Please read the link at the top of the screen - as I have no idea what version of RetroPie you are running for example (and no idea of what version of vice).

Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

Thanks - updating VICE on it's own didn't work (I tried that) but updating the retropie-setup script first, then VICE, seemed to do the job.

@jonesyp it's already fixed if you update retropie-setup and reinstall vice. (or just do update all packages).

      Hi All,

I had a similar problem when I wanted to save the settings for using Joysticks in vice. And after that all games runs very very fast and no sound was enabled.

I tried already deinstallig and rebooting and new installation. But I had the same problem. UNTI: I removied the files from

      /opt/retropie/configs/c64/

After taht and restarting the emu I worked again - god sake!!!

@Shadowfax sorry its 5 in the morning here so im not going to get on my pi for exact details but to fix sound buffer go into sound settings and there is a section at the bottom where there are 3 options that are there with the bottom one checked. I think it says something about "exact" but i could be wrong. Change it to the first option. Then save your settings. Runs awesome for me now with scanlines on.

Hello, sorry to reply to a very old topic, but I've finally found a nice 1080p scanlines config fro VICE.

      Enable CRT emulation

      set the following color controls

      gamma 3000 tint 1000 saturation 1310 contrast 1210 brightness 1000

set the following CRT emulation config

scanline shade 730 blur 500 oddline phase 1240 oddline offset 840

Enjoy, but please be aware that without overclocking your Pi3 you will not get 50FPS with CRT emulation turned on

This is mine so far, just testing it now. For some reason on this new build though games take forever now to load, even with warp mode on:

      0 1 1 2 7 4
      0 1 2 5 Virtual keyboard
      0 1 3 5 Machine settings&Joystick settings&Swap joystick ports
      0 1 4 5 Snapshot&Quicksave snapshot.vsf
      0 1 5 5 Snapshot&Quickload snapshot.vsf
      0 1 6 5 (null)
      0 1 7 5 (null)
      0 1 8 5 Quit emulator
      0 1 9 5 Speed settings&Warp mode
      0 1 10 4
      0 1 11 5 (null)
      0 1 12 5 (null)
      0 1 13 4
      0 1 14 3

Though I haven't tested it since v4 of RetroPie, if you turn off autostart of Emulation Station (in retropie-setup, configuration), you can add the below to the end of /etc/profile

      if [ $(tty) == /dev/tty1 ]; then
      opt/retropie/emulators/vice/bin/x64 -chdir /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/c64
      fi

This is assuming you've added Vice in as it's not there by default anymore.

@vbs makes sense that you had slowdown now you mention the CRT filters. The filters adding approx 20% load so combined with resid thats going to cause slowdown. Testing the Edge of Disgrace demo with both switched on is causing stuttering/frame drop to 40fps

Or we can just wait until 2.4.32 arrives. Perhaps in one month?
