It's probably a little over my head, but I'll dig in a bit.

Interesting question, I've been using a Pi 3B+ with a 32GB Class 10 Kingston microSD card, running Retropie 24/7 for more than two years. I've not experienced any trouble at all. Most of the time, the Pi is idle, between gaming sessions and using Kodi a few hours per day. Writing speeds and fsck reports look good too.

Besides the pictures and the seller's page, there's no much info about VGA666RGBs. They say it's compatible with Raspbian/RetroPie/etc., so I assume it works similarly to other GPIO analog video add-ons, using the standard vga666 'driver'.

For RGP-Pi, I remember it outputs RGB via Scart, so it might not be the first choice if your monitor has no Scart inputs. Not sure about the driver, though.

Almost all updated overnight. I still seem to be having problems with MAME and MESS updating. Is this an upstream thing I should leave and come back to later?

It IS possible, but it probably won't run so well: sudo apt install dolphin

I see this post is a little old, but I have exactly the same problem. Did you find a solution in the end?

I have read the posts above and will try out the suggestions, but I was hoping that "scaping" would automate the process so that I did not have to manually download or re-code all those videos.

FYI - Raspberry Pi 4B 1GB Retropie 4.7.4 - Scraped with Steven Self’s optional scraper package.

@busywait Thanks for that, I added "composite=1" to the "dtoverlay" line in config.txt, and it has had some change, but the screen is still blank.

Now when I run modetest, the connector "composite-1" shows up, but its status is "unknown", and it has no associated encoder id.

The list of encoders has also changed to include TVDAC, but it has a crtc of 0.

TBH I'm not sure how connector, encoder, and crtc interrelate, and/or whether it's possible to fix the relations (assuming that's all the problem is).

@duggeryskull this solution works for me although the Cdown remains unassigned. Do you leave RIGHT ANALOG DOWN (which is Cdown) -NOT DEFINED-? That's an issue I have not been able to find a solution for so far... Cheers

I just fixed this using the suggestion from @quicksilver and if anyone else finds this:

sudo nano /opt/retropie/emulators/mupen64plus/bin/mupen64plus.sh

Then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the file:

WINDOW_MODE="--windowed $RES" put a # in front of it to comment it out and if you set Fullscreen = true in mupen64plus.cfg then wave bye bye to permanent windowed mode

@polygaryd Thanks for the info! You might also want to add that demos go into "/opt/retropie/configs/ports/descent*/demos". So if you want the original prerecorded demo(s) ported as well, you should copy them to this directory.

Great thanks. It is ok. As I said forgot the '&' at the end. Still do not know why 'DMIX' option gives no sound and the 'Sysdefault' option does.

Took some time and feels that it was a lot easier in the end. That's always when you find out how it works properly.

Finally have some results...
