    @MiroKostovBG
PAL and NTSC have different resolutions.
Perhaps when you are running PAL games, the screen output is resized to fit the extra vertical lines (576) onto the screen and that 'squishes' in the sides a bit. NTSC only has 480 lines.

You can probably eliminate the top/bottom black bars with overscan settings, but it seems like the left/right bars will likely always be there when playing a PAL game.

If the button is recognized by EmulationStation, then it should work in any Libretro cores - I think you're confusing the 'home key' (keyboard) with 'home button' (joypad).
Please add more info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first - including the exact controller type and model you're using.

Well the machine is built and we are wiring up the Xin-mo controls. Once I get it going I will test a 2 player game and let you guys know how it goes. Have a good one.

Ok, so I feel like an idiot but it was the un-useability of the home key that was the issue. When I remapped select to the hotkey feature, it worked. Thank you to all of you. At least I learned a lot about cfg. :)

Should I open a new thread?

Probably yes, it will make searching easier for any other users to find answers if they may have the same or similar issues in the future.

    Hello All,
I'm dealing today with the same issue but my investigation shows so far that for me it is only related to PAL MD games

I opened a separate threat here with some more research : https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/34696/megadrive-50hz-games-with-genesis

The problem that I have if I use 1980 x 1020 @ 50Hz is that the monitor for whatever reason has black borders all around and I experience this on PI4B

Fixed, using MC I could see everything, just my folder structures were wrong and so nothing was showing up, quick rearrangement and it's all good.

    Thank you for your help.

@retrobop your response is not re-assuring and the questions raised by @sirhenrythe5th and me are relevant, since they're related to the legality of your RetroPie usage.
I guess the legality of distributing open source software is no concern to you though. Good bye.

EDIT: I restored the original topic starter, without it the topic replies don't make any sense.

This is great! I have got it running in kiosk mode by adding "--kiosk" before the URL (as a separate parameter)

One question - any way to hid the mouse cursor when this starts? Tried setting use_cursor to no on matchbox-window-manager but that doesn't stop it (in /opt/retropie/supplementary/chromium/chromium.sh)

    Thanks.

Such a pitty because vulkan works great on the Android images for this board.

I installed the blob drivers and indeed it looks like there is still no vulkan.

PS: Installing the libvulkan-dev package made mupen64plus compile 😊

    A quick additional update:

I just changed the default emulator to lr-flycast in the launch menu, and tried a different game that wasn't loading, and it ran.... without disabling the game-specific override...

Tried another and that worked too. All with the correct bezels setup in that override.

Very strange, but up and running.

    Thanks again.

@zommggg without any logs we can't see how the system detects the Rii, if you can post them then maybe we can try something based on the errors/messages shown.

@sleve_mcdichael said in stop ScummVM from generating .svm files?:

If you run the command manually, does your output look like mine?

nope, there's an additional line: Using configuration file: /opt/...

using tail -n +4 solves that then. Sorry for bothering you with this, seems like something I could've figured out...

You can try scraping them. That's what the <platform> tag is for in es_systems.cfg, where you configured the custom system.

looks like I'd removed that line (in my attempts to isolate from the main scummvm), but I'm adding it back in now.
(even though not all games there are scummvm...)

i've used skyscraper before, thanks for the tips!

Was there a reason you want to use the scummvm.ini contents, specifically?

oh, no, it just looked like there's more info in there, but not much of it is useful for scraping anyway

thanks for everything, i think i can handle it from here :)

  • Update from binary after updating from source

    @Finntendo

    You should read the Docs.
Here you can find many answers to your questions.

I will try to answer your question.

RetroPie is a collection of bash scripts running on top of a lite linux OS.
Lite means it has no Desktop (windows) environment it only has the terminal.
You can even install RetroPie separately on your own compatible debian based linux OS, even if it has a Desktop environment, even if it's not a Raspberry Pi.

Just see a binary as an EXE files from windows, it is also a binary, you download it and it runs.
But to create EXE files you need to compile it first from source so the computer can understand it.
Compiling is converting the programming language into understandable code for the CPU this can take a long time depending on what computer you use.

The RetroPie guys made it easier by supporting binary installs for the Raspberry Pi and perhaps for some other arm boards.
They compiled it for you and many people can use them.

Source installs can be more up to date if the source code is maintained regularly and the binary files are behind but it takes much more time to install.
Though the binaries from RetroPie are updated quite regularly so if it's possible to update from binary than that is in most cases a better choice as it is much faster.

You say you have updated everything now from source.
This means that all installs are very up to date.
So when everything works I would wait some time to update from binary.
Because it could mean that you downgrade the emulators.

The OS underlying files are updated in a quite normal way.
This does not depend on the source / binary installs.
So you won't downgrade your OS.
