      @MiroKostovBG
PAL and NTSC have different resolutions.
Perhaps when you are running PAL games, the screen output is resized to fit the extra vertical lines (576) onto the screen and that 'squishes' in the sides a bit. NTSC only has 480 lines.

You can probably eliminate the top/bottom black bars with overscan settings, but it seems like the left/right bars will likely always be there when playing a PAL game.

@mitu I just figured out what my problem was. I was using bios_CD_J.bin, bios_CD_U.bin, and bios_CD_E.bin, but they had the wrong checksums. I grabbed the correct versions of each, making it possible to hear the soundtracks for each game.

My pi 4 isn't overclocked - what settings would you suggest I use for that please?

I don't have any recommendation, as i said i don't own a pi4. I'm just thinking that garbled sound can be the result of performance issues, and gpgx appears to be surprisingly demanding. So i'm wondering if an overclock could improve things.

@uncledisgusting said in lr-genesis-plus-gx master system sound garbled after restoring save states - all games affected:

      should they be enabled?

Probably not, they are features that will lessen performances.

On a sidenote, savestates with the nuked setting appear to be broken to me : i just tried loading my savestates from yesterday and the core crashed, after some more tests it appears the core can't load savestates from another session on my setup (it works just fine if i set it to MAME). That might be related to your issue. Maybe report this to the author, and/or change setting/emulator.

There are no performance issues whatsoever playing a game with nuked sound in the initial session

Your sidenote issue IS the issue that I have been concerned with the whole time. Thank you for corroborating that. I think this emulator is the only one with nuked fm sound.

@Smeg this is why we have it disabled by default. see https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Input-Lag#unsupported-tweaks. on a pi4 there seems to be the CPU headroom to disable it on the 16-bit cores at least, but i've not done extensive testing.

Will I still get the same nearly flawless experience with those emulators in their current state of development? I would rather not buy a Pi 4 if I don't need to spend the money.

I just updated mine first time in almost 2 years. Make sure to copy all ur splashscreen videos and stuff. I cant find the one I was using. I deleted my SD card and started fresh. However, you can just update the cores. You could try updating the kernel and stuff but I had a hard time because my kernel and stuff was too old it would freeze up. You might now have that problem.

" Will I still get the same nearly flawless experience with those emulators in their current state of development"
It will probably be the same if not better.

I updated the core and it still doesn't work. Nestopia and AdvMame all work great for me with no calibration/tweaking needed. Just plug and play. Nothing works on Genesis Plus for me, re: light guns.

@quicksilver I have 6 button setup working on both emulators as of now. I found the settings you mentioned in Mortal Kombat II but changing them made no difference. I went over everything on my setup and was stumped. I booted up a fresh image, completely up to date, configured my SNES and Xbox controllers and put on my Sega games only. I made the changes to the respective config files and presto it works. After changing the setting you pointed out that I missed earlier in Mortal Kombat. I don't know why my original setup was not working. It has to be something I modified but I haven't found it. Thanks for you help and if I track it down I'll let you know.

Update: I think I found the problem. When I updated in the morning I did both binary and source, I've never used source before. It wrecked my controller configurations. It had my generic SNES listed as generic and just SNES, and the Xbox controllers were listed as generic Xbox, the original config, and Xbox 360 Pro. Every game I launched listed the two controllers I had connected twice and then worked in piece. Not sure why updating from source would do this as I have updated from binary and it was fine. In the future I will probably unplug all controllers and use the keyboard for updating.

@cjax08 from what I have found:
      iso is larger than bin
      bin is larger than chd

and chd is smaller than pbp format for a psx game though not by much

I think the good way id to create 2 core option files and launch the game with correct option file depending u want to launch in jap 60hz or use 60 hz or pal 50 hz.

Is possible in gamelist to set the lauching command specifically for each game?

As of 2024, I can confirm that @akafox's method still works.
In our case, we had two generic SNES-like controllers and a third generic PS3-like controller plugged in.
After pressing Select-X to get into the emulator menu:
The first two controllers had many controller type options.
The third controller only had retropad available.

On controller #1, we selected 3 button + 4 way tap.

Then reset the emulation from inside the menu.
      Voila, 3 players.

For anyone interested, I was able to figure this out,

I was using crt-pi shader, but for whatever reason this causes problems with genesis plus gx. Using crt-pi-vertical shader produces the identical results that I get in other emus using crt-pi shader.
