I wanted to thank you properly, it seems like I'm up and running aside from some issues with a few games (NES, SNES, GBA, and N64) blinking. But I'll figure that out on my own (or I'll make a separate post...). Fixed! Needed to uncomment HDMI_drive=2 on /boot/config.txt. Just leaving that behind for anyone else having the issue.

Seriously, thank you very much. Even my saves are going into the drive now!

If editing files around is not something you're familiar, then my suggestion is to find a system with a bit more performance and has the righ GPU. Even if you'd manage to get EmulationStation working, other programs/emulators might have similar requirements and you'd be struggling to make it work.

@Asmodeus04 I'm going to drop this for now. unless you you are using a CRT, the 120 hertz mode is not worth messing with. It's too choppy.

@killerpoke So, does it work ? I don't have Disney+ so I cannot test it, I just updated the addon.

There was a problem with the RPi4 Kodi binary, so it was temporarily removed to not break it, but it should be fixed now.

Repeat the step for the psx system, as @quicksilver mentioned:

Go to the /opt/retropie/configs/psx folder. Remove the retroarch.cfg file. Copy the retroarch.cfg.rp-dist file to retroarch.cfg. If you don't have the retroarch.cfg.rp-dist file there, then remove the retroarch.cfg file and re-install the PS1 emulator, it will add the file automatically.

@MRZ999 yes this is how retropie still works. Unless your using a older version from around 1 year and half ago. There was a change to how retro arch saw controllers by the order they were plugged In, but was reversed shortly after.

Classic remark in case it's the issue: can you try disabling vibration in the Retroarch core options menu and seeing if it improves it?

Working now with after repairing via Start+B. Not sure what mode this put it in but all seems fine on all cores now.

You can lower reserved space. But I would leave some free.

@Ravynmagi welcome. It was a 4 character change although I did check in a VM with Pop! OS also.

@GreenHawk84 I totally get this. It took months to get my build perfect to the point I was only adding around 1 rom at a time so I could scrape and detail it perfectly. Now we have a huge upgrade it makes my palms sweaty so I don't mess anything up lol.

I have followed much of the same process as on here, I have up/down/left/right/a/b/x/y all working ok.

Start and select don't work however. In the config file I have the following:

SELECT 6 # 'Select button'
START 16 # 'Start button'

I noticed in the list of commands does not include 'start' and 'select' (i looked at the kerTable. file referred to on adafruit tutorial) so maybe it should be SPACE and ENTER, I tried this but still does not work in emulationstation or when playing a game.

Any ideas?

I am just using arcade buttons and a joystick.

Just to check, does the part after the # matter? I thought this was just a reference in the code to the person reading it so they knew what that button/PIN did.

@pinacolada Ok so I think I've resolved this.

Firstly, I took advice from a YouTube video which described how to update RetroPie itself - this took me to the following screens:

Update Remote Setup Script Basic Install Perform Reboot

It took a while, and looked like some errors occurred during the install, however...it did come back up, and now the hotkey + right trigger DOES load from the save slot.

So I guess the root cause here was an older version of Retropie.
