@Neo-Rio said in Retroarch build failure on PC:

currently trying to build retroarch fails with an error about "HEAD is now in branch 'retropie-v1.10.0' " and "Error running "git checkout retropie-v.1.12.0"
some patch branch on retropie isn't on github as expected to be or something's going on there.

More likely your local source copy is still present, because v1.10.0 fails to build with Ubuntu 22.04. Clean up the source folder before attempting another install.

@mitu thank you very much once again!
I updated RA yesterday, but will do again.
Strange that this .info-file gets corrupt sometimes and by far more often it has to be ok (Ratio Games load: Games do not = 8:2).

    Thank you sir!

FYI: RetroArch has been updated once more to 1.13.0 (visible in changelog, not on the homepage)

Can you please add the full details about your setup asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?

Try running EmulationStation manually from the command line (after it crashes) with

    emulationstation --debug

and post the last error shown on the screen when it crashes ? I still suspect there's a connection issue with the controller, the crash is usually indicating a bad connection (controller disconnects immediately after being detected).

@andymassey Just remove the transparent plastic holder. Then you will be able to take half of the joystick off. That part has to be rotate by 90 degrees and reassembled. Finally you put the tranpsarent plastic holder back.

@bruceDaMoose77 said in Random crashes in Emulationstation menus:

My pi just crash randomly in menus after around 1-2 minutes sometime less...

You mean just letting EmulationStation idling, without any actions performed, or when you open the EmulationStation menu(s) and go through the options ?

    @mitu
Yes I read the gpu setting on the pi4 is managed dynamically and is best left alone as it can harm performance increasing it.
I do try to keep everything default and use the advice in the documents.
I have been able to replicate the issue over and over. I decided to try turning off and on many different features under emulationstation settings and keep testing.
It's probally nothing to do with the issue but after turning OMX on and doing the test again so far ive managed to add hundreds of games without issue. I will create more collections and try again this has been the most successful for me so far. I can't really see why this would help as when adding games to the collections i don't give it time to start playing any video.

    Update
Tested again with same setting OMX on with existing and new collections and worked fine.

    Thanks Sim

I just upgraded to a Pi 4 and Atari 5200 works now!

However I still get segmentation faults in runcommand on a Pi 3.

Both are running Retropie fully upgraded with the latest lr-atari800 binary.

So I guess if this is happening to you, ditch the Pi 3 like I did.

@mitu said in lr-ppsspp crashes on hotkey reset:

Is there a similar issue reported for PPSSPP ?

I didn't see one, but the repo is pretty active and there's a lot to sift through so it's possible I may have missed something.

The closest one I found was this one, also for the libretro core; I'm not sure if it's the same issue since I didn't test any of those other actions and I'm not sure if Sync Audio is enabled or not -- I can test some more next week.

What is the maximum number of roms combined across all systems it can handle before start up and/or crash is a problem?

Haven't done any extensive testing, but I recall a while ago a forum member tried to load more than 100k games and ES crashed due to insufficient memory. That was on a RPI 3, which had something less than 800Mb RAM available (the rest being taken by the GPU memory).

On a RPI4, with more RAM available, things might be better. Of course, if you're not using a SBC, RAM may not be an issue.

Is it really necessary to go through checks? Eg. if I symlink within a system to a specific folder on a large HDD, could it build a list only when I go in to that particular folder?

Symlink-ing won't help much, you can already mount your ROM folders from an USB drive and this would speed things up for the initial scan.

I suppose if I built a massive gameslist.xml and not parse, would this help or would that be just the same as that's the way ES works?

It would help with the initial loading, otherwise you'll need to wait for ES to re-scan the folders on start and depending on how many games you have, that can take a while (not only an a Pi).

@superfromnd I got the game pre-patched initially, so a few minutes ago I decided to patch the original JP files using the tutorial from that website you linked. Each of the different checksums for the ISOs were the ones indicated and they patched with xDelta3 successfully. Loaded up the game and I still get crashes.

So I started thinking maybe the issue was to do with the files being split as .iso/.wav/.cue instead of a .CHD file or a .cue/.bin. I tried using Isobuster to convert it back to a bin/cue format and was able to launch the game but still got the same crash. I thought maybe I had done the process incorrectly so I found someone else's conversion to a .bin/.cue format and the game will still crash at the same point. I also found another person's version of the game in .CHD and yep, same crash.

the crash specifically happens at this point in the longplay above, where you examine the gun in this opening office segment. You can examine other bits like the cigarettes and the machine on the right, but clicking either the gun or the picture frame crashes it. I dunno what's going on with the saturn hardware wise, but it transitions into a still zoomed in image separate from the rest of the environment, and that's where the crash seems to trigger.

It's so frustrating that I can't really get any more information from yabasanshiro (I also don't seem to be able to get much from lr-yabause because it just hangs at the section as opposed to crashing outright).

Get a powered USB hub and use it to connect the USB encoders to the Pi. The Pi may not be able to provide enough power for the encoders.
