@mitu , I just updated the documentation on how to autostart games properly using runcommand in https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#how-would-i-start-from-command-line-say-the-snes-emulator-by-itself

Hopefully this clarifies the procedure to more novice users and saves some headaches :)

@jladd1113 Try updating the 4.4 image with the latest OS packages, that would the only difference between the 2 images. If that doesn't work, then you can manually install RetroPie ontop of Raspbian - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/.

@teardropexplodes We don't support 3rd party images. Please install the image from retropie.org.uk/download.

I found a video here that applies for my situation:

What my friend did was just give me that SD card that was already on his pie. So what I am doing right now is backing it up to an .img file and then I will restore it onto a new SD card.

I just didn't know I could do that until you mentioned it hehe. Thanks a lot mate!

EDIT: I will share a screenshot of how this retropie looks like when it is done so you can see why I like it a lot.

@mediamogul said in Did Fix-It Felix ever happen?:

Seeing that Steam Link was merged just a few hours ago, this should allow the Windows version of 'Fix-it Felix Jr.' to be played on the Pi without much hassle. Granted it'll be streaming from a Windows PC, but in all likelihood it may be the only way this particular game and anything like it will ever be playable on the Pi.

Am very much looking to someone somewhere posting a "How to add Steam Link to Retropie for dummies" guide...

@Brigane Actually they didn't stop - there was an update in August (see this topic). There's hope that one day it might be open sourced.

thank you. I did not change any video modes via run command. Not even sure how to do this? I know during emulation you can make changes but I can't see the options because the screen is so zoomed in I can only see the first few options. Same for changing emulators but I may be wrong with that as well.

I may need to switch emulators but I'm not 100% how to do this through the CLI / config menu's ATM. I'm going to take a stab at that too. Update: I was already using lr-fbalpha (NEOGEO), and tried switching to pifba but got a black screen no sound no nothing (so worse). Thinking I can update the emulator software and have better results? worth a try.

OK I tried editing the config.txt and it didn't make a difference in the menu or the emulation.

    here is the current config.txt

    # For more options and information see # http://rpf.io/configtxtreadme # Some settings may impact device functionality. See link above for details # uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default "safe" mode hdmi_safe=1 # avoid warnings, 1 only remove overlay, 2 allos turbo avoid_warnings=2 # hide splash rainbow disable_splash=1 # uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible # and your display can output without overscan disable_overscan=0 # uncomment the following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console # goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border overscan_left=16 overscan_right=16 overscan_top=16 overscan_bottom=16 # uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size minus # overscan. #framebuffer_width=1280 #framebuffer_height=1024 # uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output #hdmi_force_hotplug=1 # uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA). Now 720p is set (josete2k) #hdmi_group=2 #hdmi_mode=4 # uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in # DMT (computer monitor) modes #hdmi_drive=2 # uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or # no display #config_hdmi_boost=4 # uncomment for composite PAL #sdtv_mode=2 #uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default. #arm_freq=800 # Uncomment some or all of these to enable the optional hardware interfaces #dtparam=i2c_arm=on #dtparam=i2s=on #dtparam=spi=on # Uncomment this to enable the lirc-rpi module #dtoverlay=lirc-rpi # Additional overlays and parameters are documented /boot/overlays/README # Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835) dtparam=audio=on #gpu_mem_256=128 #gpu_mem_512=256 #gpu_mem_1024=256 #overscan_scale=1 # Overclocking (moderate) #dtparam=sd_overclock=100 #arm_freq=1300 #core_freq=500 #over_voltage=5 #sdram_freq=400 #gpu_freq=400 gpu_mem=256 #sdram_schmoo=0x02000020 #over_voltage_sdram_p=6 #over_voltage_sdram_i=4 #over_voltage_sdram_c=4 #v3d_freq=500 #h264_freq=333```

Based on the info @rion dug out, I'd say it's likely not compatible with RetroPie (and a bit overpriced in my opinion).

@grant2258 It worked for lr-mame2003 but not for lr-mame2010.
It seems is an impossible mission to configure player 2 controls in lr-mame2010: do you have experienced it?

@skykid said in Shaders not displaying properly, weird issue / CRT-PI etc.:

I have the backup of the retroarch.cfg I had before I replaced it with the dist version. To restore the console retroarch.cfg’s I should be able to pull them from a previous backup - but do I need to replace all the console files?

You can easily compare the versions you have on your backup with what you currently have installed.

The switching of the resolution between frontend and rom sounds like it was set prior in the runcommand, but I assure you it wasn’t! When I went in there today it was all totally vanilla. I never messed with anything in there before.

'in there' where ? How do you check it ? The video modes switch should be saved in the /etc/retropie/configs/all/videomodes.cfg file, you can also check there.

This is great! I've been looking for a good computer monitor overlay for my DOS games. This is way better! XD

I tried doing the JSTEST, it detected it alright. But it still does not detect the buttons. It says 13 buttons detected but has four nulls in the end if the list which i think represent the nonfunctional buttons. The driver version is 2.1.0, is there a new one and how do i install it?0_1542835782198_48724714-04F0-45ED-9B52-1B74B2C05B8A.jpeg

@herb_fargus - Yeah all the wankers are coming out of the woodwork for the holidays trying to make a dollar. I think a guy would spend all of his free time trying to stop them with any type of impact. They are just a dime a dozen everywhere now infringing on the RetroPie name, logo and even boot-up screens. One vendor mentions they would need to upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4 to correct the issue so they must follow the project closely.

Hopefully that speaks to the success of RetroPie but also I was talking with a guy that claimed RetroPie was getting in the way of understanding/configuring Retroarch. I thought that's the point. RA might receive a 9 or 10 for flexibility and power but maybe 4 or 5 for ease and usability. It takes time to learn RA effectively. RetroPie simplifies all that configuration, unifies non-Libretro cores and standalone ports alike under one user interface with many of the configuration options in a GUI or menu.

The success of the Nintendo mini's and the recent Atari VCS kickstarter attests to people willing to pay big dollars for a simplified user experience an that's one of the places where I think RetroPie delivers.

You don't see all these fly-by-night Amazon market place vendors singing the praises of RA or Libretro. They advertise these cards with RetroPie at the front and 11,000 ROMs plug-n-play ready with room to add your own games in the descriptions. I'm a bit surprised Nintendo didn't focus more of it's energy toward these type of folks openly selling their games on the Amazon marketplace. They are definitely not in for the spirit or love of gaming as most are here.

I did clean up the post and remove the links above so as to not aid and abet their greed.
