    @MortalWombat said in Tips on insuring that RetroPie will save battery games & Metadata changes?:

    Is there anyway to search the results?? Hopefully by searching just "autosave" or "interval"??

    You can use ctrl-w to search within the document while it's open in nano.

    @DolphinCube said in Retroarch wont save after saving in-game a couple of times:

    Certain games I played still has this issue. Especially with my n64 games. I think a fix is that when the system creates a new srm (for gba games). I have to manually delete it after the first save then reset the permissions of the roms folder for retropie using the retropie setup script.

    That's weird, there's nothing that changes permissions during gameplay, all emulators/ports are run as the pi user. Did you modify the launching command to run as another user ?

    But the configuration file error is still an issue

    Why do you need to save the config file ? As a workaround, you can save a game/core override with the settings that you wish to change.

    @mrmadcatz I think you got your info here - from @barbudreadmon. The configuration for this game in the hiscore.dat file is wrong - that's why saving the hiscore doesn't work.

    Same situation is present in MAME, so it looks like saving it won't work until someone adds a proper hiscore.dat entry for the game. The hiscore.dat file instructs the emulator how to save the high scores for the game, if there's no entry for the game or if the entry is not correct, no emulator will be able to save high scores.

    @dankcushions Thank you very much for responding. Unfortunately, none of this is working.

    Here are the changes I'm making: Retroarch Menu, Input, Port 1 Binds (Mouse to 1, Trigger to fire)

    If I select Quick Menu, Controls, Save Game Remap File

    or

    Quick Menu, Options, Save Game Options Files (rom name)

    Neither saves the settings above.

    Under Input, Port 1 Binds, there's a Save Autoconfig File option, but I'm hesitant to select that because I'm not sure exactly what it will do.

    @MRL2051 said in N64 roms not* saving once emulation station has been rebooted - linked to audio error?:

    Something I read suggested the volume error could mess up the save state for N64, but maybe it is completely unrelated. I can save my N64 roms and go back to them as long as I keep the emulation station running. As soon as I restart my pi it deletes the most recent save.

    No, there's no relation between the 2 things - that error message is from EmulationStation and it appears at start-up, but you don't see it unless you launch a game.

    How reliable is your SDcard ? This kind of behavior (files disappearing) is usually an indication of bad/failing sdcard.

    @deskjobo said in SAVE STATE STUCK AT 0% ISSUSES:

    @theotherdan Thank you so incredibly much for your response. I followed both sets of steps you gave, and my results are as follows:
    After using df -h my available storage is shown to be 785M out of 3.3G size.
    For the command ls -al /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ all the emulators appear to have 'pi' in both the user and group, as well as all the correct modebits.

    Is 785M enough of an available storage or could that be the cause of the problem?

    ps. All my roms are stored in a usb drive instead of in the sd card with the image.

    @deskjobo
    785M will be 785 Megabytes, so a decent amount of space. For save states, I would say that space is not an issue..
    Now, since you are not using the default location for saving, you will need to adjust the process a bit.
    You can look at /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg by running 'cat /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg'. This file should show you where the save states and saves games are stored:

    #Save all save files (*.srm) to this directory. This includes related files like .bsv, .rtc, .psrm, etc ...
    #This will be overridden by explicit command line options.
    savefile_directory = "/media/usb0/savefile" <--

    #Save all save states (*.state) to this directory.
    #This will be overridden by explicit command line options.
    savestate_directory = "/media/usb0/savestate" <--

    Based on the output, and where the USB device is loaded, you will have to append the command to meet it:

    sudo chown -R pi:pi /media/usb0/<emulator>

    Let me know how that turns out.
