@pokerparties Flipping the screen 180, just makes it "upside down". Do you mean 90 degrees, similar to the difference between 'portrait' and 'landscape'?

If so, then you can just use a shader in Retroarch. That's what I do. Regardless, shaders are the way to go. (There is a "hardware" route to go with the "Pi 3" that you can't do on the "Pi 4", but I think it's CPU intensive.) You'd get better performance with shaders.

Thanks for the responses to my question!!

I've already tried to downclock the device, that didn't help a lot though, yes I have overvoltage set to 6, however I tried to disable it for testing purposes, sadly it didn't help.
I actually only used gles2rice since my games then run at 1080p, all of the other options run at a realy low res, and when I look into the menu where you can change the video output, it's set to 1080p.

So I think my new question would be then how to set the "real" resolution for one of the better emulators to 1080p.

I've seen this on one of the megadrive/genesis emulators. The reports indicate it is related to the widgets that appear in the lower left corner during startup.

I've been able to get going by pressing hotkey + B to simply reset the game. Always seems to work the after that.

@mitu it’s the little mini screen that shows the game. I’d send a pic but it won’t let me on here. It only shows the top left corner of the game

Okay, so now I'm getting blanking AND random "No Signal" to the TV. The no signal issue recovers when I exit the game. Could it be my seven dollar HDMI cable?

@griff How does it plug 'directly' ? GPIO/HDMI ? Check the screen vendor instructions on how to get it to work with Raspbian and apply those instructions to your RetroPie system.

So, this is where we reach the limit of what I might be able to do remotely. The picture looks to be the effect of Horizontal size setting needing adjustment. If there are no other pot adjustment knobs then you may have to look for jumpers to make adjustments.

With that said have you plugged in a more current monitor to see if the effect goes away? Just to make sure it is not some setting in the Pi that is causing it.

below is a clipping from a crt trouble shooting site.

"Horizontal size should be set so that there is about 10-15 percent overscan left and right. This will allow ample margin for power line voltage fluctuations, component aging, and the reduction in raster size that may occur with some VCR special effects (fast play) modes.

Many sets no longer have any horizontal size adjustments and depend on accurate regulation of the voltage to the horizontal output stage to control horizontal size. There may be a B+ adjustment to perform first.

On those that do, the adjustment may either be done by setting the B+ voltage, by a pot, or a width coil in series with the horizontal deflection coils.

Modern sets do not generally have any linearity control but you may find this on older models. You will need to go back and forth between size and linearity as these adjustments are usually not independent.

Some of the newest sets control all these parameters via settings in non-volatile memory and use service menus accessed via the remote control for nearly all setup adjustments."

After some more experimenting, I noticed that after a clean install it would work the first time, but never again. Also, I noticed that if I set the refresh rate in the basiliskii.cfg file to dynamic (frameskip 0) and constantly moved my mouse it wouldn't give me the error. What would happen is the screen would turn completely white and then as I moved the mouse it would replace horizontal chunks with the emulator screen. I could do this until all of the screen was visible, but when I tried to shut down, the screen would go black, the mouse would invert color and I could not close the emulator or reboot.

Same thing for me. Plugged into my Insignia 1008p TV in my office it looks fine but plugged into my 4K Sony TV I see those red lines and red dots all over the place. No idea why its doing that. Using official pi power supply on a Pi2. Tried 2 different HDMI cords, same issue on the 4K tv.
