@baviaannl __Mupen64Plus __ is a standalone emulator, so it's not getting its settings from RetroArch, you can try lr-mupen64plus (which is a Libretro emulator) and see if it works.
For standalone emulators, just like for libretro emulators, ES will try and generate an input configuration file when you register your input. If you modified it in-game, then you can edit/reset it as described in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-64/

@usarmyvet Please provide more details - which games, what's the error message, what emulator ? Are the permissions on the ROM folders correct - can you write in the folder as the pi user ?

@majere How are you checking the status ? A normal lsusb should list the USB adapter. If you run dmesg | tail immediately after plugging it in, you should see if it's detected, something like this should be printed:

If this is the product you're using, it should work without problems.

I should have looked harder. I found the clarification I needed. Those options are saved by design:

@BoogieMan core options are managed from RGUI (select+x) -> quick menu -> options
They are saved automatically.
See documentation for more info on using retroarch.

@fruitybit yeah the programmer is probably the best retro game programmer on the planet. He did an awesome job on this game. I harassed programmers and game producers for a long time to make a pong clone. Luckily rev got into producing intellivision games and had the same dream to have an awesome pong game made.

Tried another card today.... Retropie installs and boots, then after adding roms I get the dreaded "garbage" message.
I added roms this time with Emulationstation off, and rebooted.

@namin Downside is I don't like the other controller as much.

Still can't figure what the heck to do with XEX files, mind you.

This thread seems to suggest that some controllers don't filter their signals sufficiently and the Pi doesn't do that either. USB and wireless adapters tend to filter these micro signals, thereby fixing the problem, as does adding capacitors to the faulty controllers (final confirmation).

The question is, can it be considered an error on the part of the Pi that it's "too sensitive", if the actual fault lies with the controllers.

Good point! I was planning to just pick a representative game or two for each system and play them for the first level or so. Maybe repat a few times per game to minimize the effect of random hiccups and player actions.
