@Rocket I would suggest probably a different rom source. If these are for sure known-good roms (for example working in another emulator on a PC), then please supply a verbose log of one that isn't working in RetroPie.

Please fill out the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first - what Pi model ? RetroPie version ? Power source used ? etc.

The only crash I've seen in the last few years with EmulationStation was related to controllers disconnecting/reconnecting due to faulty USB connection or due to insufficient power fed to the Pi. Run emulationstation by typing emulationstation --debug at the prompt (after it crashes) and then post the error that it prints on the terminal after it crashes the 2nd time.

When you say menu things, do you mean access into the RetroArch menu when missing an X or Y button?

You can remap the controllers configs inside /opt/RetroPie/configs/all/ (think it's called joysticks or joypads) then edit the lines like "input_toggle_menu" to the a or b button so you can access that?

Assuming you only have a couple of controllers doing it once or twice would solve that. If you are mapping loads on emulationstation you could change the RetroArch.sh mapping file so when you map something in emulationstation it maps your chosen button to those hotkeys. For example button b being a reset hotkey, for button mashers that's a nightmare for me so I usually get rid of that mapping for the entire emulationstation -> Retroarch.sh mapping file.

Fixed, using MC I could see everything, just my folder structures were wrong and so nothing was showing up, quick rearrangement and it's all good.

    Thank you for your help.

@LLD said in Radiant Silvergun on Pi 4:

Could @roslof provide specific advmame settings if that's the case ? Or could it be that advmame changed since the edition of the sheet and gives now poorer performance for that game ?

Well, I can say that as of now, I also cannot get the game to run with either 2x or 3x magnification.

This is a Sega Titan game. It doesn't run well with any system, but still runs best with AdvMame. I've never had great success with the audio either. Always sounds "tinny" on the Pi4 builds, and why I have it at the bottom of the "recommendations" totem pole.

@retropieuser555 @LLD correct in that audio cannot easily be addressed. I added the note about ScreenUpdateSetting = 7 in the sheet. Note there is also a comment in there for Perfect Dark from @George-Spiggott

Could also try Next/640x360 16:9 with MSAA Level 2 (recommended by @George-Spiggott RetroPie forums)

Forgive that my pi is offline (building lr-mess) at the moment, but I recall Perfect Dark could not be perfectly emulated with any system and there were some sacrifices with any proposed solution.

@costas it’s controller priority. The usb ports take priority over the Bluetooth connection. You can change the which controller is which in the retro arch menus. As far as the resetting. It sounds like you set the hot key as either a or b. Reconfigure that controller in emulation station to make either select or the Xbox button the hot key.

@Addison Does that work with a x86 computer or just the pi?

Oh man, it's been so long ago I can't remember what I did back then.

I didn't purchase a USB Hub or solder anything, I know that much.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/7g2d0n/howto_fix_phantomghost_input_on_ibuffalobuffalo/

I still use the wired controllers on my Pi 4 since they're wonderful.

I do have the default Wi-Fi disabled and bought these instead for 8x faster speed:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PB1X4CN/

Don't think I can be of any help except for posting that first link I shared.

@owsey147 Your OS is outdated and no longer supported; currently only Debian 10 (Buster) is supported and, unfortunately, cannot be upgraded in-place.

In addition, is not practical to troubleshoot a system that neither you nor we have any idea how is configured. For this reason, purchased systems and other third-party builds are not supported in any capacity.

For both of these reasons, you will need to perform a fresh install of the latest supported version.

    Start here: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation

I suggest you to backup if able your existing roms and BIOS, and then install the current latest official image for your hardware from the website at https://retropie.org.uk/download. After the new version is installed, you can restore your backed up roms folder.

We don't support 3rd party images and yours looks like it was customized and changed from the default RetroPie image.
I see you have a number of services (like snapd or bt-device) which are not standard on RaspiOS and I see also an error related to CPU throttling - maybe the system boot is slow because the CPU's frequency is scaled down.
You can use systemd-analyze how long it takes each system service to start, it may help identify which one is responsible for the slowdown.
