@djolivo24 What have you tried? How have you "shutdown"? What card are you using? Do you know it's genuine? How are you writing the image? Please do the things listed here:

      Found the culprit.
Please use Option 1 in the above mentioned wiki to include the roms from your NAS.

      Then it's working.

It will not work with Option 2.

      Thanks.
Leaving this for others, if they happen to get into the same issues.

Ok, I give up. The request was simple and would give developers early feedback on real world performance with each release, which seems to be of some value, based on the feedback above on rev 4.3. It would also allow newbies to quickly check their setup against a standard benchmark and take away a lot of subjectivity, saving them and the support team countless hours of chasing problems that do not exist.

      Good luck,
      MML

@andrewlee32 Listen, MAME has made better men than you weep for their mothers! Your best bet for a good grounding is getting ROMs from the MAME 0.78 reference set, maybe you could google that... Put them in the Arcade folder and choose lr-mame2003 as the default. That is my VERY quick start guide to MAME.

@1500points this looks like a good place to start more investigation...

Specifically... "Correcting the inner and outer deadzones of analog sticks for finer control and to prevent drifting problems in overly-sensitive or well-worn controllers."

@sphirst I dunno. I don't know python, but it is not like you will break anything trying it.

I just thought you should know that there are several discussions active right now on the topic of shutdown scripts. Most of my work recently has been related to the Mausberry circuit, a little PCB that goes on the USB port and hooks into GPIO to trigger safe shutdown. You can do something similar without the circuit, but the Mausberry adds the ability to truly cut power.

I did not look at the video you linked above, but you might also find a little software package called GPIOnext interesting. This is the evolution of GPIOneer, a GPIO button handler/driver created by mholgatem. I use GPIOneer, but I will be replacing/upgrading. My buttons that use it include volume control as well as safe shutdown.

@marky489 zdoom will work with controllers. You need to enable controllers in the options, then in that controller you need to turn off axis 4 and higher otherwise you will spin in circles in gameplay. Set what you want axis 0-3 to be. Then there is another option outside of the controller setting where you assign buttons and keys. Configure your controller in there. It sets it up for every doom engine game you use zdoom for. The only issue is you need to use the xboxdrv to set up the esc key and the enter key so you can exit/ use menu without a keyboard. Left and right on your controller is up and down in the menu

@moco Seems like a good price. It looks to be a fairly compact enclosure. Will this be hidden inside your project?

I think you have to take a somewhat "disposable" approach to these projects. I have my system running completely off a large SDcard, and I have to live with the possibility (although I have not had an issue) that the card could get corrupted and require me to reformat. With safe shutdown etc. I should be able to avoid that, and you with your external drive may overcome that problem altogether, but as my project has evolved I have always considered all of the configuration, ROMs and artwork to be just the "working" versions in my arcade cabinet, knowing that I will eventually want to re-image. To that end, everything is stored in a network archive so I can rebuild if I need to.

I hope it works for you. If I do the HDD route, I might simply try to repurpose one of my bare 3.5" HDDs by adding a USB interface. The thing I like about thumb drives though is no noise, lower heat, and no moving parts to fail.

Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

mostly likely corrupt / faulty sd card or badly written image.
