The Libretro doc page on Caprice32 is pretty extensive - did you look into it ?

I did not find a second version in ~/RetroPie-Setup/ext/RetroPie-Share/scriptmodules/supplementary, but I deleted any other versions of the file on my system - in the trash folder, download folder, etc...and that did the trick.

I will try the ParaDOS options again later and report back.

The ParaDOS options are visible and they do load ParaDOS.

I just wanted to throw a "thank you" in here though for posting the answer to your own question after you found it. Google searches bring people here sometimes to find answers to the same problems they may be having and it's frustrating to see nothing entered or, worse, "I found it. I'm good."... then no explanation.

Weeks later...

Since this "Game Focus Mode" feature was definitely not practical (the user has to press a key to use the keyboard, and then press a key again to access the shortcut to return to EmulationStation, it's a pain...), I found it much more useful to remove all the shortcuts that RetroArch assigned to the keyboard keys.

(Honestly, I wonder WHO thought it would be a good idea to use all the keys on a keyboard to provide shortcuts that nobody ever uses... when you're emulating a machine that needs a keyboard to work)

(especially when one of those shortcuts is used to display... a virtual keyboard).

So, I edited the /opt/retropie/configs/amstradcpc/retroarch.cfg file, and changed (or added) all the following 'input' lines to 'null':

I'm now doing the same for all the other emulators that have the exact same problem (all the libretto cores that emulate a computer: lr-atari800, lr-bluemsx, lr-fuse, lr-theodore, lr-vice...)

(Sadly it doesn't actually work for me because it needs a newer Caprice release than the I have, which doesn't support 6128+, and it refuses to update because I'm not running poxy bastarding Stretch. But if I ever put myself through that hell it's good to know it should be ready :))

@lexus I don't think it has anything to do with RetroPie, it seems to me the first place you should check are your locale and keyboard language settings.
In the terminal enter sudo raspi-config to check and change your Localisation Options.

to answer my own post, the dev of libretro-cap32 answered me on github. It's a simple matter of switching the virtual keyboard to gamepad emulation by using the SELECT key. Then you can use the virtual keyboard with the mouse. YEAH !

the pi1 b (512mb version) isn't to bad... and can run some PSX games...

I was able to play pac man world on it using the .cue/.bin extracted from the disk with no problems as well as a couple others (crash bandicoot and such)

though more graphic intensive games like Tony Hawk was unplayable...

and N64 on Pi1 was near impossible...
