    @luireef THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH... I have been banging my head so much with not getting things to work and have tried about anything I can find both in this forum and outside without any solutions. Your help worked like a charm.

    @yserra your .conf file doesn't look complete. I'll post mine when I have a chance for comparison. It may be beneficial to start a new topic however since this conversation doesn't really fit with the original topic.

    @mitu Ups sorry turns out it was just me messing up my system. Both players continue to work without problems.

    You can find the patches included in RetroPie's SDL in the Github repository here.

    Ok so just a handful of commits at the top?

    @retropieuser555
    I know what you mean. N64 and PS1 look very dated when you play those games.

    At least by Gamecube or PS2 Era the graphics had gotten much better and the analog controls don't feel as clunky.

    @evansauve I would check out @ExarKunIv awesome archive of extra games for retropie. He has a script already setup to install this game without having to do everything manually.

    https://github.com/Exarkuniv/RetroPie-Extra

    Follow the instructions on there and then you should be able to install openrct2 right through the retropie menu

    @grfc said in What is the best MAME to use with Pi 4 4GB? (Largest library, highest compatability):

    @roslof Hi, not sure of the correct etiquette of commenting here, but I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for your efforts on your Retropie & N64 compatibility spreadsheet. I have been referencing it for some time now as I continue to build my arcade collection for my Pi400, but I checked it yesterday and noticed you completed it recently! A massive undertaking by you, and congrats! And I wanted you to know that I (and I'm sure others) appreciate your efforts! Good job! :-)

    Kind of you and glad you've made use of the sheets. The project isn't over, as I update it from time to time when I have chunks of time available. Takes a few weeks to go through the ROMs, so can't do this with each major emulator release. Also some good help from a small number of people keeps me on my toes.

    Thinking about handling CHD games next... We'll see.

    @mitu I've only tried the Genesis version. I believe the only "licensed" version one made for Windows that was packaged with the arcade cabinet you could get from Disney. The other ports are homebrew roms and therefore not commercial games.

    @Ashpool said in retrogaming & faked information/memories:

    Well, this may not be a topic of major interest - but I want to present it here, as I just stumbled upon it and am really flabbergasted by it!

    Prelude: Inspired by some articles about The Hobbit from Melbourne House and curious about citations about the capabilities of its parser (I've played its sequel Lord of the Rings and remember that it was a PITA compared to Imfocom):

    The parser was very advanced for the time and used a subset of English called Inglish.When it was released, most adventure games used simple verb-noun parsers (allowing for simple phrases like "get lamp"), but Inglish allowed the player to type advanced sentences such as "ask Gandalf about the curious map then take sword and kill troll with it". The parser was complex and intuitive, introducing pronouns, adverbs ("viciously attack the goblin"), punctuation and prepositions and allowing the player to interact with the game world in ways not previously possible.

    Story:
    So I tried it out (well, yes because I thought it a worthwhile trip down memory lane and because I ever wanted to play it back then) -> well in 1st room/1st scene I experienced this:

    Hobbit.jpg

    Then I veriefied the "word list" given by the manual of the game on world of spectrum and yes... ask is not a word known by the Inglish Parser!
    I've checked (after consulting an acquaintance/friend of mine who had published an article about Why dates in retrogaming are problematic) the history of the wikipedia article ... and guess what, around 2011, it was corrected but soon again replaced with the false information about the parser.

    puzzlement of mine/question:
    WHY? I understand (better to say: i see why they happen - not that I really understand why) why there are fake news in politics/comercials/etc. but why is such a false information about, in this case a parser from back then, and from it onward in retro games dates/howabouts/in-general widely spread (verify/check on a retro-gaming wiki of your choice) and even discussed in some places (e.g: Inglish parser on the Hobbit (1982 video game)) as if this information is true without even trying it out (the wikipedia article offers a link to play the game within a browser, so no excuses here)?

    Am I growing too old? I really don't understand why such missinformation is beeing spread, and now that I encountered one example on my own, i am wondering how much false information about retro games i had missed/passed on myself/etc. I simply don't get it!

    Yeah it's baffling. Those text adventures were among the firsts of my foray in gaming and I loved trying out certain word combos to see if it was sophisticated enough to understand it (and occasionally throwing in an expletive just to see what they said)
    I'd say they do it to make the game seem more capable etc but can't imagine what benefit it would have to the writer etc

    @jetcold0 I haven't see something about this project, it looks that they are offering openmohaa-v0.61.0-linux-armhf.zip . Maybe it is possible to run this in a Pi but i don't know how.

    @Lolonois Good ideas!

    Did you consider to use sshfs [1] for mounting the image/video folder from the main Pi into the PiZero2W? That way you don't need to maintain a cache at the PiZero2W.

    I didn't consider sshfs, I started with the idea of a cache from the start to speed up the display. My thought is it will always be faster to read a file locally than over wi-fi, or spi. As a USB-peripheral there may be a low enough lag to skip the cache.

    Another idea, albeit more complex, as the current setup assumes the Pi's can reach each other via wireless, right?

    It does. However my first idea was to run the zero as a stand alone access point and only connect RetroPie to its network. (My router sits on top of my arcade cabinet so RetroPie is connected via Ethernet and doesn't need wi-fi to scrape or connect to) I didn't implement idea yet for speed to get it working in the first place and I figured that would be an edge use case at best.

    You may also run the PiZero2W as USB-peripheral to the main Pi, connected via an straight USB-A to MicroUSB-B cable (and powered from the main Pi). With some configuration the PiZero2W is set into gadget mode

    That's actually a great idea! I setup a a ZeroW to be a networked thumb drive to run my SLA 3D printers a long time ago and they're still running great. That would simplify wiring and power supplies.
    Only problem in my case is lack of USB ports. I have an arcade deck, trackball, USB SSD, and a 4 port hub mounted to the front to allow plugging in other controllers like NES, SNES PSX ect. (With the USB keyboard and mouse dongle plugged into that). I don't have a free port without adding another hub or taking cables outside the cabinet.

    @thelostsoul yes, you and @mitu can all make me feel bad for the liberal use of sudo when I shouldn't :) You're right, I don't need sudo. I might have originally saved the collection files in a folder where the pi user didn't have write permissions, so that was that! Or I might have just been lazy about it - also likely.

    Yeah, there's no issue with the platform you use, by all means - though you can install RetroPie on a Linux machine as well! A Pi3 is certainly a viable option, though with the Pi4 and the Pi5 - and especially with you playing on a Linux PC and a Steam Deck - the systems it supported are slightly self-contained by now.

    No worries, I'm thinking of some developments on the EmulationStation front and this was a fun input that I had not considered. When I get around to it and publish them here I'll tag you.

    Cheers, have a great weekend!
