Ok, so it's already mess here, I want ask a question: what is faster - Raspbian installed straight to sd card, or that Pixel (lxde?) desktop installed in RetroPie? I have two sc cards (one with RetroPie and desktop, another one with Raspbian and on top of that RetroPie) and "clear" version of Raspbian is working slower than that desktop port on RetroPie.

Ok so I took a copy and then updated lr-fbalpha and it works with the neogeo.zip in the BIOS directory :)

@300cpilot Purge would remove the system's config files, not any user configuration files - that's a rule for all packages. Glad you got it fixed.

@cl04ker I also have the same issue in 2019.... I'm trying to rotate my games for use with a vertical monitor... I was told to use : under /opt/retropie/configs/all/ in the configuration editor. The option I changed :

mame2003-tate_mode = "enabled"

While I'm able to change it from disabled to enabled, when I reset my pi it reverts back to disabled, WHY !?

On the driver screen for controllers I selected uninstall all, then reinstalled ps3 controller only.

Connected to player 1 immediately.

Yes, what an idiot I swaped the power supply and didnt even notice, now it's late I'll try tomorrow with official power supply.

I hope thats the issue, it got to be it's only the thing that changed... the same happens when I open retroarch, also the system only shows the pop-up that a controller was disconnected when I reconnect it which is strange

@garradam not safely shutting down can potentially cause corruption of your sd card. If your pi freezes you should remotely access your pi through ssh and safely shutdown that way. Often times it's only emulation station that isnt responding. There are a number of easy to use ssh apps for smartphones that are very convenient to use.

I figured it out. Retropie was preinstalled. I didn't realize that sd card needed to stay in and then I put the roms on with a thumb drive and another sd card. I ended up having to resetup the freeplay CM3 and I learned quite a bit even if it took me 5 hours....

I believe these are the lines you need to look at.

Use your monitor's native resolution for the first option.
Use aspect=true, if you want the correct aspect ratio - after scaling. False, if you want it stretched to fill your monitor.
scaler=XXXX - XXXX=your scaler of choice...none, normal2x, normal3x, advmame2x,....etc... Use this to scale the image.

@roycebryan You can certainly do that (using a cfg file for each ROM).
Using the Core input mapping and creating an remap per game would be similar - the config file would saved in the RetroArch overrides folder.
