Update: I believe I have located all of the files associated with “ControlBlock Service” (photo attached). The SD Card is currently mounted to a Windows PC and I am using a software called “Diskinternals” to view the files. However, the software only allows me to “read” and “copy” from the files located in the SD Card.

Can someone please share of a method on how to write (delete) files from the SD Card while mounted to a Windows PC? Thank you0_1516787146377_3276996D-D569-4F4B-A4BD-8AE974D51703.png

The BIOS file, neogeo.zip, for NeoGeo games using lr-fbalpha can be placed in the BIOS folder (source). This does only work on recent versions of lr-fbalpha.

I set up my Neo Geo system recently and placing neogeo.zipin the BIOS folder did not work on v0.2.97.39 that was installed on my system. It worked fine when I updated to v0.2.97.42.

@jeffjordan Well, none of us here can really speak to the quality/effectiveness of their flashing utility. ....

    Of course not !
this is a retropie related forum and my question was "at the edge" of being off-topic.
just wanted to inform other users with my reply about the curious behaviour.
and yes: you need to get into the mode where you can flash the pad, you need to press <power> & <pair> for a few seconds, until the pad led's flash yellow; afterwards you can connect the pad to the usb port...

@jbryan1984 said in Need help with MAME (reading did not help):

I read somewhere rom set 0.78 seems to work the best.

Specifically, it works with lr-mame2003, which is the default MAME emulator in RetroPie. Keep in mind that if you ever change your emulator you'll need to obtain the corresponding ROM set or you'll have the same issues.

It says Simpsons 4 players so I am guessing that has something to do with it?

It does. What you want is the Simpsons 2 Player ROM. Player one and two can then freely choose their character.

I found this Atari controller config file. Can this be used to help? Obviously, I am not too savvy with this. I have figured out some basics with Mame on the PC, but struggling to translate everything into RP emulators. I can get the game to play with a mouse on some versions of advmame and Lr-mame, but when using the original 720 joystick I can only get the skater to very quickly flip back and forth 180 degrees. The mouse buttons I have connected to the Optipac with the joystick can be mapped, but not the joystick..Hopefully using Pastebin correctly...Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

@matchaman if you use lr-nestopia you only use one button. L1. And you can map it to select. Select will still work the same. If you are in actual gameplay and you hit select it does not eject+ flip while you are in game. But if you say hit select once in gameplay when you get to the flip disk screen it will give you a disk side error. All you have to do is press the select button one time and it will correct itself. If in game you hit the select button an even number of times like 2x, 4x, etc... it wont give you the error. Not a big deal when you do get the error as you only flip a disk once or so while playing so you lose maybe a second of time. Again you need to switch to lr-nestopia as this does not work in lr-fceumm

    @mitu
Figured out how to fake a splashscreen in portable emulation on pc. I opened the batch file in ES that sets it as home and open it.
    Changed it to:

    set HOME=%~dp0
    start "" "emulationstation.exe" --windowed --resolution 1920 1080
    start "" "C:\Program Files\MPC-HC\mpc-hc64.exe" "G:\Portable_Game_Station_1.5\load.mp4"

changed the resolution to fullscreen size but kept it windowed so my player can show over it. used MPH-HC set the options to fullscreen when it launchs a file. set it to be "always on top". also selected the player to exit after playing.

@mitu Oh I'm aware it's just a front end, I've tried doing RetroPie for my brother in law as a Christmas gift (which I got working easily enough).

And I didn't think to try Github's instructions, I guess I just assumed the main page would work. Tired and ready for bed. Thanks, I'll give it a shot later.

Well I didn't touch anything... just went to bed.. woke up and was going to try the grep method... but now it just works fine.

Luck favors the well rested. Glad to hear it's working.

@skullgazing That's not enough info. Please answer the questions outlined in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
The message Errors are logged to /dev/shm/runcommand.log is the default message shown by the Runcommand before running any game. If there's an error somewhere, it might be logged in that file, so you could paste the contents of the files when you answer the questions from the page above.

@zkreider I use a wireless Xbox 360 controller, works pretty good and you can pick them up for cheap. I have heard ps3/4 controllers are also good.

@mitu yup I'm very aware of all of that. and I did some snooping around in retroarch.

and now this is VERY weird. I accidentally deleted the entire rom list I had in the SNES dir. sent it all back on SSH, tried a game and VOILA, now it saves.

I have no idea as to why or how its working now

You could just use a wireless video sender, if you are not using HDMI anyway, these can be had for a tenner off eBay..

Might save you some headaches trying to solve something that looks like it's not possible, and even if it was I expect it would be a significant drain on the CPU of the Pi..

@isrnick said in Emulationstation crashes after RetroPie boots up - Permission denied:

@mitu But the keyboard is disabled when it crashes, so you can't type the commands to even open raspi-config to be able to enable SSH.

Sometimes, I can free the keyboard by pressing Alt+PrtScr/SysRq+R simultaneously. It's a Linux Magic SysRq key combination that switches the keyboard from raw mode, which graphical programs tend to use, to XLATE mode. May be worth a try.

Note that on some keyboards, Laptops etc. the key combination is slightly different. See the link above for the variations.
