I've been using cso as well. I don't really feel any difference than using iso.

@sleve_mcdichael said in (PSP) CISO or another iso>cso converter?:

      Is this safe?

Looks like probably yes. I also found the file listed on https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/armhf/ciso/download. I don't see where to actually download it from this page, but the md5sum given there does match the file downloaded from the other source. This looks like a rather official source, even if I don't know what Launchpad Librarian (the other one) is.

      Will it work?

Also, probably yes. It does run. I compressed two ISOs with ciso on my RPi, and also with umdgen on my PC, and compared them.

For one game, the CSO made by ciso and the one made by umdgen, were identical (yay!), and on decompressing, the output ISO was also identical to the original.

For the other game, the CSOs were different, but they both worked.

On decompressing, they came out still different, but they also both still worked. The one that was made by ciso, when decompressed by ciso, was identical to the original source ISO (yay!). But the one that was initially made by umdgen, when decompressed by ciso was different than the original, but it did still work.

I got about 20% savings overall (10% on the big one and 45% on the smaller one.)

Win32DiskImager - Doesn’t work. I create the image and try to mount it to make sure it works and Windows tells me it's corrupted. This happens over and over again.

This is all you needed to do, it did work, you just can't mount it under Windows.

We don't support 3rd party images, as outlined in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. So the best image is the one from https://retropie.org.uk/download.

Overclockings - No boot. cfg, nothing special
Themes - only the official and themas installer.
Easyhax - scripts only. Nothing that creates a fork
Bios - I believe that in this part I really made a mistake

Well I'm trying to delete the topic, but he accuses that I can not have answers in it. So since no one liked it, I'm grateful if any adm help me by deleting it for me.

      No further.

Is it possible to read Dreamcast/Ps2/Gamecube discs into an emulator directly via the DVD drive on Retropie/PC or need they all be dumped to a .cue/.bin/.chd/.cdi etc, and how do i dump these discs anyway ?

i was wondering if dreamcast ps2 and gamecube discs need to be dumped to a file for use with retropie pc version, or if they can be read via the dvd/br drives in pcs directly in some of the emulators ?

As far as I know, pcsx2 can read the DVD drive directly, for reicast/dolphin, you'll need a disc image

if they need to be dumped,. i believe dreamcast discs have a different layout than normal cds, can those be dumped with a regular dvd drive ? Or is it so that if someone wants to play these in an emulator he/she has to download official dumps of these discs ? with what program and drive do i need to dump any of dreamcast/ps2/gamecube discs anyway ?

Look around for instructions on how to backup your discs, there are no 'official dumps' provided by the vendor/publisher (though they're plenty 'unofficial' ones). Here are some pointers:

This isn't foolproof, some games don't like the change. Pinball Illusions, Pinball Fantasies, Fire & Ice and Skidmarks 2 all work fine. So long as the CUE file has CD32 at the end of the filename they boot and auto setup the CD32 pad.

Seek and Destroy and Alien Breed 3D will not boot in this format, instead they bring up the 'Cats Eyes' BIOS screen. I'm totally lost as to why as the other four CD32 games work fine so the BIOS clearly cannot be the issue.

You could create an m3u index to point to the iso files or even cue, bin or pbp files.

Legend of Dragoon (Disc 1).m3u contents: ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 1).iso ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 2).iso ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 3).iso ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 4).iso

This way there is no need to append the image, because the index is already there.

If you wanted to go the extra effort, you could create a folder for the game, and then make an m3u index for each disc. that way you will be able start on disc3 if the first entry in the index is disc3.

Legend of Dragoon (Disc 3).m3u ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 3).iso ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 1).iso ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 2).iso ./Legend of Dragoon (Disc 4).iso

Though additionally you would have to symlink all the memorycards to the same one.
make sure there is only the 1 memory card you want to keep and link to: "Legend of Dragoon.srm" and delete the others or else the links wont be made.
ln -s "Legend of Dragoon.srm" "Legend of Dragoon (Disc 1).srm" "Legend of Dragoon (Disc 2).srm" "Legend of Dragoon (Disc 3).srm" "Legend of Dragoon (Disc 4).srm"
provided those are the names for the m3u indices.

You could also use a program called PSX2PSP to convert and compress all of the discs into a single or individual PBP file that can be loaded in EmulationStation.

@sano You know what dude? I solved the problem myself :D . You know PPSSPP for Windows for e.g. It's in the same form as the one I mentioned. But now, I want to mess with es_systems.cfg, to run it through the Emulationstation menu. You see, the reason of can only boot one file error, was that in the es_systems.cfg file, there was line like this:
      <command>/opt/retropie/emulators/ppsspp/PPSSPPDL</command>
And when I was trying to open .iso file through th ES menu, RetroPie was cofused, whether it should run PPSSPPDL, or .iso file. That was the reason of occuring can only boot one file error message. Coming back to es_systems.cfg, how to edit it in order to run PPSSPPDL, through psp section??? Hardware list, if necessary:

Raspberry Pi 2 Model B 32GB Sandisk SD Card TP-LINK 150Mbps Wireless Nano USB Adapter (Model TL- WN725N) Esperanza Bluetooth USB Dongle (model wasn't specified on the box, I'm really sorry...) PPSSPPDL (non-libretrocore version, but I told you about it before)

.exe and .bat files will appear in the "pc" section of EmulationStation, so you can surely put the needed commands into a batch file, yes.

      @meleu

I think RetroArch doesn't care about extensions...

Jeezy Creezy.... It was just that easy.

Ahhhhhhh well. At least when I'm wasting a ton of time and the answer is just this simple at least I'm learning new things, right?

I absolutely can't believe the best answer was changing .bin to .cue. Works perfect for launching the game, and it shouldn't give any problems with our script either.

      Thanks everybody!
