@mitu Thanks for clarification over the new bootloader screen because I didn't half panic when I first saw that a few weeks ago. 👍

    See this thread

It explains how to launch the GUI for dolphin so you can get in and configure the controller.

Once you get that open you can reference
    https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/guides/configuring-controllers/
for a more detailed guide to specifically setting up the controller.

@mitu thanks, I've edited my post to just leave the systems I'm having trouble with. They all point to the 'parent' system.

EDIT: I changed the name for naomi from dreamcast and it's working.. So problem solved. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

@MeltedPineapple hello! I suspect you're having an eXoDOS version of the game. @mitu is correct in saying there are parameters to help you configure your setup. To have the dosbox.conf (or any conf file or commands) you did use to launch the game would help a lot! Off top of my head here are some parameters you can use to run the game:

    c:\> monkey.exe r <- enable Roland MT-32 (requires specific files and setup) c:\> monkey.exe i <- enable internal speaker c:\> monkey.exe a <- enable Soundblaster and Adlib (most compatible) c:\> monkey.exe v <- force VGA

You can use a combination as well:

    c:\> monkey.exe a v <- enable Soundblaster and VGA

Search for Monkey Island reference card for DOS on the Web to get more keyboard shortcuts and interesting info. The most interesting shortcut for you would be Ctrl + S which turns on / off the sound (only working for Internal Speaker though).

Note: my recommendation would be for you to give a try to ScummVM for anything Lucasfilm games/LucasArts related. Very easy to use and you'll get the best experience possible. Check Retropie docs here for installation and ScummVM wiki to properly configure the games.

So i figured out the solution.

That's more like a workaround, since lr-ppsspp doesn't use the same input configuration as the standalone ppsspp.

What you could try is get the latest gamecontrollerdb.txt and copy it to /opt/retropie/emulators/ppsspp/assets/, then see if your controller behaves better.

Since the destination folder is not writeable by the pi user, copy the file to the roms folder first, then run, from the command line:

    sudo cp $HOME/RetroPie/roms/gamecontrollerdb.txt /opt/retropie/emulators/ppsspp/assets/

I find even with a pi4 i can't run anything past 1080p, also make sure you have your game mode set on your tv.

I will admit i have not attempted to use advmame yet, so i am just kinda throwing out suggestions.

I've managed to plug 5 controllers via Bluetooth but never gone beyond that. Honestly donno if we noticed any lag or whatever, but this was on an older pi3b, which I think has weaker Bluetooth.

Depends how fussy people are, if they just want to play bomberman and have a laugh, I doubt they'd notice the lag. If they're hardcore online gamer types, maybe go for usb controllers and a hub.

In terms of games, the pc engine has capability for 5 player, but it's just bomberman which you've already got covered.

Look for a micro machines j-cart ROM on megadrive, that's 4 player I think. Also arcade beat em ups are fantastic 4 player, Simpsons, turtles, X men (6 player!), There's tons of them but I can't remember them all.

Edit:- just use this list for games btw, it's pretty exhaustive:- https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4336/list-of-retro-games-for-4-players

    @zodiark12 here's the sha1 and crc checks 2003+ is expecting. https://github.com/libretro/mame2003-plus-libretro/blob/f7e53fda8195ae9d9a2b33c1dbed27e7410a41ff/src/drivers/neogeo.c#L1574-L1589

You can compare the ones you have to these and double check your naming conversation. Make sure you done have ".rom.rom" or something like that either. Some desktops hide extensions. My guess is the check sum is off here for it not to include the file.

@rmbell34 From my understanding that is not a player light, that light tells you what mode the controller is in. From the website.

What are the four small LEDs for on the bottom of the controller?

    They are controller mode indicators:
    A. LED 1 blinking: D-input mode
    B. LED 2 blinking: X-input mode (Xbox 360 mode)
    C. LED 3 blinking: macOS mode
    D. LED Rotating: Switch mode or pairing mode
    E. Solid LED: connection is successful
*It also indicates the player mode when connected to Switch.

@rtarroyo said in Remove Initial Boot Screen:

using the terminal remotely is lightyears better, I feel stupid for not knowing that was an option.

Then please spread the word, as many people (especially Windows users) think about the terminal as backward and cumbersome, while in fact it's very powerful and no rocket science with a little willingness to learn.

I compare it sometimes to a Swiss Army knife next to the everyday knife and fork (the graphical desktop), or a look under a car's hood in addition to its dashboard. 😉

Besides remote administration, it's perfect for doing the same thing over and over, e.g. processing a big number of files (example, example).

To become even more efficient with the terminal, I can highly recommend to check out its keyboard shortcuts, especially those for Tab Completion and the Command History.

End of the noncommercial break. 🤓

Thanks for all your help everyone. This has helped me learn a lot!

It looks like maybe I could mess with mame.ini if I want to try to configure this, though I haven’t quite yet determined if that works for lr-mame2003.

Anyway, seems like maybe the right way to play this particular game is with a different emulator anyway!

    Thanks.

@mitu said in It's possible to integrate Samurai Showdown Perfect in Retropie?:

EDIT: samsh5fe titlescreen is still 'Samurai Showdown V Special', maybe it's not the 'perfect edition'.

Fullname of samsh5fe is "Samurai Shodown V Special (Final Edition, location test version)", it is indeed what some people refer to as "Perfect Edition". The word "Perfect" feels kinda counterfeit though, afaik they simply removed some gameplay elements from "Samurai Shodown V Special" (probably making the game more casual in the process) to make room for a story mode.

Except if you are using a non-merged romset, you'll probably need its parent samsh5sp.

@fcibx6r1un said in It's possible to integrate Samurai Showdown Perfect in Retropie?:

From what I understand the "Perfect" edition of the game is an emulator that runs the "Special" edition, and overlays it with new content. It isn't a self-contained ROM.

To be more precise, the commercial emulator from "Samurai Shodown Collection" uses some quirks to replace the title screen and to add an english translation to the story mode. FBNeo use the raw romset and doesn't have any of those quirks.
