      @mitu thanks for the reply! I don't think there's any way to change the pairing setting on the wired controller. The manual is pretty sparse. The button below the B button is actually the Home button and I have it set to the hotkey currently it's just awkward to use with some of the combinations.

      I'll have to give the xpad a whirl. I think I managed a work to make it work by manually editing the appropriate .cfg in the retroarch-joypads folder (the same way I set the toggle fast forward to work across all of the retroarch emulators). But I haven't yet added any games to see if it works. I'll report back with my findings.

      I added these two lines:

      input_l2_axis = "+2" input_r2_axis = "+5"

      adding this line:

      input_toggle_fast_forward_axis = "+5"

      works to toggle fast forward so I think it will work to make the triggers function. I've got to track down a PS1 game that uses L2/R2 to see if my solution worked. I'll try the driver on another build as it's always good to have multiple working solutions.

      Can you provide some more details here for the SN30 and how you paired it. I think I am getting lost. I currently have it in switch mode, and all buttons except a few are working right now. I will try pairing it another way to see where I get.

      triggerhappy runs as a service when your system starts. Unless you've disabled it, it should read the configuration file and do the actions configured.

      Which is better? 2.4GHZ Propriatary Wireless or BlueTooth controllers?

      @Thorr69
      While that is true, they aren't the same protocol.

      The SN30 2.4GHZ version can only work with their 2.4GHZ dongles, and not blue tooth.. it is not universal
      https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Sn30-Wireless-Gamepad-Original-nintendo/dp/B08536VCZL/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=SN30+pro+2.4&qid=1589492826&sr=8-6

      While the Bluetooth version can work with any Bluetooth capable device, but the dongle is sold seperately
      https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Sn30-Bluetooth-Gamepad-Sn-Nintendo/dp/B07GK8LJBJ/ref=pd_sbs_63_7?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07GK8LJBJ&pd_rd_r=2669e596-b69c-4bfc-bc13-2e1906a42450&pd_rd_w=uxy7C&pd_rd_wg=D9CpO&pf_rd_p=d13bb895-21d3-4e96-94a7-553aaae51224&pf_rd_r=31X5SBQFWHGY1FWX1P6C&psc=1&refRID=31X5SBQFWHGY1FWX1P6C

      Both can be hooked up directly, and I prefer the Bluetooth version of the newer controllers due to using USB-C instead of MicroUSB, but I've heard from a few people/sites that the 2.4 are faster with less input lag

      https://www.retrorgb.com/krikzz-joyzz-vs-8bitdo-m30-2-4g-vs-8bitdo-m30-bluetooth-input-latency-lag-testing.html

      and

      However, I've noticed that after updating the BlueTooth controller/adapters 8bitdo sells, they seem to have sped up with my Pi... but I am curious if they really did become more stable, or is there something else.

      I'm not sure if the 8bit hack is needed with recent (i.e. latest) firmware revisions on the 8bitdo controllers. You should try and remove the options, then re-configure the controllers.

      For the Pro2 - try testing it with jstest (more details here) and see if the gamepads buttons are registering. You might want to try other connection mode for the gamepad - Switch/Android - if the gamepad is in 'PC/Windows' (I think that enables XInput) mode.

      @bitzdv said in eduke 32 gamepad issues and expansion installation:

      You can rebind some of the buttons in the game, but the issue is that in the menus A and B are swapped, and this can not be rebound.

      That might be handled automatically by the Gamepad API in SDL2, hence the game usage of the gamecontrollerdb file. You can create your own mapping and add it to the source of eduke32 before compiling, but it's kind of a long shot. See https://github.com/gabomdq/SDL_GameControllerDB, the Mapping Tools section.

      @KN4THX
      The problem it's not the hotkey, a lot of NES games use the select button for doing things in game.
      I'm a medium-skilled developer, with some guidance on the retropie bluetooth scripts and stack I could write myself a script which does in background the pairing procedure again, at least with one model, the SN30.
      If someone is willing to help or pointing me to who ask questions to, i'll be happy to try to write then publish such script.

      If the controller is plugged in with a cord it will detect it, but it will not detect the 8bitdo adapter. I didn't install a heat sink on the internal Bluetooth chip because I had this adapter and planned to use it. I don't know why it can't be detected.

      I noticed the same thing, in the switch mode I had ghost movements and it all went away when I put the gamepad in windows mode.
