@sli4 It looks like the tvservice program arguments are not correct or an update to it changed them. You'll have to find the line where the program is called and make sure it uses the correct parameters. Run that command from your terminal to check that you get no error.

Well after bashing my head against a desk for an hour or so I finally gave up and posted the above, then figured out almost immediately what the problem was.

Appears at some point within FBA i had set up a core override that must have had resolution settings set up,

Deleted the override file and FBA immediately started behaving itself

@gforce In this case, if you prefer to edit the configuration file, have a look at https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#config-hierarchy to determine where to add the configuration parameters.

@sjlurker2018 No you type commands into the terminal or command line interface (CLI)

      You can enter a terminal

Exit EmulationStation via Main Menu > Quit > Quit EmulationStation
1.1 You see now the command prompt
1.2 Enter commands via keyboard via SSH and a second PC
2.1 you enter also a terminal but this is remote
2.2 you need a second PC/Tablet.... for this

Follow the instructions I've posted you. Then we can help you further.

@thedatacereal If you're looking to create per-core configurations, the easiest is to do them in the RetroArch gui, then save them with Save Core Overrides. They'll be saved into the .config folder and they'll contain only the changed configuration options, much easier to read and maintain.

@thultisu Enable SSH, login as the pi user (password is _raspberry), run sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh, go to the Emulationstation package and reset the controller configuration.

@mahcneto No problem. Keep in mind there are compatibility issues with emulators so while a game may not run great or have color/graphic issues in that emulator, it may run almost flawlessly in another.

Also, the high res lr-emulators are sweet :)

I think you can just SSH in and delete the config file:

      opt/retropie/configs/%emulatorname%/cfg/default.cfg

@freake Stop deleting config files left and right, you could make your system unusable.
What's your system - please answer the questions in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
Use the Runcommand launch menu and enable verbose logging, try to save the config and the paste the error log on a site like pastebin.com.

@dankcushions , thank you for your previous insight. That made me try to figure out how everything works, in regards to button mapping, in lr-fbalpha so I posted on their github with my issues (and tagged you there last week as well). We're still having problems with the default controller mappings not being proper in RetroPie according to barbudreadmon. Basically when the Device Type is set to modern, my 8 button Fightstick should be mapped like such for EVERY game:

      (3) (4) (5) (7)
      (1) (2) (6) (8)

Besides 6-button Street Fighter II style games I’m getting button mappings all over the place, and we're trying to figure out if it is something with how fbalpha is programmed for RetroPie or what. If you would like to read about the exact games I tried, and my results with the button mappings, they can be found at the link below (or if you want me to repost it here - please let me know and again, thank you for your lenghtly last post, it really did help greatly!).

      https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha/issues/156#issuecomment-340183189

On a side note, on mame2003, how would you suggest I change the mapping for the service/dipswitch menu? I just did a fresh install of RetroPie 4.3, so I need to test this again to make sure it wasn't my fault, but I think that was mapped to L2 or R2 and I keep hitting it by accident, and I don't see the option to change that when I hit Select+X and go into the controls.
