      @Golden-Shellback

Hello. In regards to the light gun games you have on your Rpi4... Are the arcade games listed the arcade versions? Like Terminator 2 or Time Crisis? Or are the port versions?

@dominodomino please ensure you fill out all of https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first when requesting support.

a verbose log for when it works vs when it doesn’t would be useful. note that shaders aren’t save via overrides: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Shaders-and-Smoothing/#installation

@dochartaigh said in "Core Override" for Shader NOT saving + changes Video settings on its own:

      • Arcade/Mame/FBNeo, to change 3-4 player settings: For "in-game system menu options" (i.e. hold Start), those should automatically save a .fs file I'll be on the lookout for. ------ ones where I have to go into (Select+X) RetroArch Menu > Options to change the 3/4-player settings I'll try the "Create game-options file" which should safe a .opt file in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/config/fbneo)

like i said, you don't need to create a game-options file in lr-fbneo if these are dipswitch settings, as it will create unique entries for every game in the global /all/retroarch-core-options.cfg, so just change the setting and it will save automatically.

@zodiark12 that's right. the retroarch menu could definitely be more intuitive in this regard but yes there's unobvious demarcation between options for the emulator core itself, and those of wider retroarch.

@Wojima said in Override cfgs won't load:

I also have Save Configuration on Exit and Use Global Core Options File turned off.

You should save a game remap file, not a game override, I don't think input controls are saved in configuration overrides - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#core-input-remapping.

You can also leave the global core options on, if you want a per-game option file, then you can save game options just as you do with overrides/remaps.

That is exactly the way I have done it. Did look at scripting it but a lot of my Arcade overlays need to move the screen to fit correctly with diferent aspect ratios

Take a look at the Configuration hierarchy. You can have the overlays per-system if you add them to the system's retroarch.cfg file. For individual games, you can use the game override in RetroArch to set the overlays.

@Nikorasu081 I'm sure you already solved this but I found this very helpful when trying to understand what each remap/config files do what and in what order they are loaded.

@mitu I shouldn't have to do it that way. The point is game override should work, shouldn't it? Also, I just used Terminal grep command and searched every cfg file that contained "video_black_frame_insertion" alt text
You can see it made a game override for metal slug but I don't see the one made for Rampage. The only emulator I'm using for Metal Slug is FB Alpha. Every other game is using Mame2003 as the default.

The problem I had was that I didn't know what the "Insert Coin" mapped to. I discovered (from Google) that it's the SELECT button. Once I knew this, I could edit the retroarch.cfg in the configs/FBA folder and added the following line: input_player1_select = "num5"

      Sorted.

      Thank you.

PS: I also tried adding input_player2_select = "num6", but it looks like it only accepts P1 setting.

@ballboff I think that's kind of what he's getting at. We don't really know what customizations that particular build has, and how to revert them.

You may go to /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg and edit the main settings there, but do so carefully so that you don't break anything. The settings you may be looking for would have "overlay" in them, and probably there's one that says "enabled" which you do need to set to false.

If not there, there are different folders under /opt/retropie/configs/with the different emulator configs, but you'd probably be better off downloading a stock RetroPie image and start from there.
