      @mitu for example

      I am going to change the button layout for Alien Storm for the Sega Megadrive

      I have started the game
      Entered the RGUI menu
      Go to controls
      Set the buttons up accordingly
      I click on save core remap file in the controls menu
      I have the message "remap file saved successfully"
      I resume the game
      The buttons work perfectly
      I exit the game back to the game selection menu
      Restart the ROM
      And it works perfectly.

      I don't believe this. It has worked. The problem was I was saving using the "save core override" option when I should have been using the "save core remap file" in the controls screen.

      Thank you so much for everything Mitu. No doubt I will encounter another problem where you can rescue me again. Thank you and have a nice day my friend.

      You can use jstest (from the command line) and test if the left 'command' works. Exit Emulationstation and run

      jstest /dev/input/js0

      use the gamepad and see if the actions are registered. Exit the test by pressing Ctrl + C. If the button/joystick works, then it's not a driver issue.

      @DetroitKp The type of device is internal to the core - if the core should expect a RetroPad (a logical gamepad) or other type of device - it's not for setting which physical device is connected - see https://docs.libretro.com/guides/input-and-controls/.

      To designate the gamepad as P2, you just need to set input_player1_joypad_index, or input_player2_joypad_index, etc. For you, to set P1 as keyboard, you need to set P2 to have the index 0 (1st gamepad):

      input_player2_joypad_index=0

      which is what the configuration editor will do.

      Hi,

      Thanks for the info! I will try and have a look at it when I get a chance. I've modded it to download my PR from github before, to test the fix we did, so I don't think it should be to hard.

      /Jimmie

      @Rip said in Controller works in emulationstation, but has weird mapping in emulators:

      Also, I did use the "save" feature.

      This might have overriden the configuration in the main retroarch.cfg. But anyway, it's good you got this working - finally.

      Please test and report on whether the joystick binding patch (as well as dosbox in general) works as expected: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/2646

      I am not good enough. I was able to follow Dudleydes instructions above and that worked, but I do not know how to get this patch to my retropie. I tried to update "dosbox from source" but that did not work.

      The PR already been merged, so update your Retropie-Setup script and then update dosbox to get the patched version.

      Have you tried dosbox-sdl2? It might have better joystick handling.

      I forgot about this because I updated and I can verify that it works. We are not using dosbox-sdl2 in our keyboard 2 joypad project since its not needed. The keyb2joy.pad project document and index keys assigned to functions. We basically fill in columns with the keys used for things like "jump", "move" or "fire". I have then made an utility that produce authentic DOSBox .map files with full Retropie-support based on these profiles. So far we made 550 platform games fully playable on joypad and we are 20% through the 600 shoot-em ups on the DOS platform.

      @Rion Seem to work now. Funny how the product page has 2 confirmation added: one for acknowledging it's a pre-order and one for I UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE NINTENDO SWITCH (?). I wonder what troubles the CM guys went through to add those.

      @DirtBagXon

      I'm pretty sure I did exactly this, I tried it several times to make sure I hadn't typed something wrong.

      git clone https://github.com/grant2258/daphne-emu.git tmp/build/daphne

      Let me append to my previous answer.

      So what you are saying is that I need to hookup the buttons on each controller so that they are the same value. IE button 1 for each controller is ''A''. I never had this problem before but will just rewire my board to make sure they match.

      Thanks for the help
