@eje211 said in Dolphin works from the GUI but not from Emulation Station:

There are still a few more things to configure, such as getting RetroPie's shortcuts to work in Dolphin, but at least the games start!

If you are referring to the Hotkeys, you would have to be running lr-dolphin for that to work. The standalone emulator does have the ability to configure hotkeys, but you will need to do it through the dolphin settings menu.

      @eje211 https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Add-a-New-System-in-EmulationStation/#step-31-launch-roms-with-the-runcommand-script

You need to edit the launch command in your emulators.cfg at /opt/retropie/configs/gc/emulators.cfg and/or /opt/retropie/configs/wii/emulators.cfg. Replace the command (or add a new one) to use your installed binary instead of /opt/retropie/emulators/dolphin/bin/dolphin-emu

Can you please add the full details about your setup asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?

Try running EmulationStation manually from the command line (after it crashes) with

      emulationstation --debug

and post the last error shown on the screen when it crashes ? I still suspect there's a connection issue with the controller, the crash is usually indicating a bad connection (controller disconnects immediately after being detected).

is this the same one that comes with Raspberry pi imager ?

Yes, Raspberry Pi Imager downloads the same images.

If it is not a typo mistake and you are using RecalBox, then, i think that you confused the forums.

Well... I just figured out what was causing this, although I still don't understand why it was causing it, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd still like to hear them.

I start EmulationStation with the "screensize" command line parameter, because I'm running at 240p on a CRT with a super-resolution (1920x240), and if I don't do that Emulationstation gets confused and scales things wrong. I then use XWindow's built-in scaling to scale EmulationStation to the full width of the screen.

This morning I changed it from this:

      --screensize 300 225

      to this:

      --screensize 300 222

because a few lines were getting cut off on the bottom. I neglected to change the horizontal though, I should have changed it to 296, to keep the aspect ratio at 4:3. Apparently it was the aspect ratio change, even though it was tiny, that screwed the buttons up.

I had moved on to editing my theme and completely forgotten about making that change by the time I noticed the messed up buttons. Oops. :-)

Sometimes gameplay snaps loop with no problem. Can you perhaps give any insights on why sometimes the snaps freeze after about 15 seconds, but then play ok when I back out of the menu and repload?

@Manukan Ahoy .. I see that the topic is old, but i have going back and forth trying to fix the crash that occurred on my Rp48gb .. I have 2 projects mem card with retropie and o e with emulationstation...
The first works great no problems .. But the second crashes after the boot... I have tried everything that is here and there (all tricks and tips) but with no results...
Finally i decide to try something random that i didnt saw in any forum - ** i have connected the raspberry pi to another tv (the main one was 55in, the second one is 10in and for my surprise it runs without problem)**

So i have no idea did i discovered the hot water... But at least that can save a few ours of pointless wandering around the forums.

If there is fix for thah to be ok with higher resolution so it wont crashes on 55in tv let me know, thanks !

@mitu I tried to install the RetroFix theme
It was confirmed that the function of the theme was not supported normally.

First, the system does not seem to support video output and path {random}.

Second, since the minimum size of the image cannot be specified in the grid view, the size ratio of the image is not constant. Moving the selection cursor changes the size of the selected ones, but I hope to ensure a consistent size from the beginning.

      There are other minor issues.

@pjft said in [ES-dev Bug Report] "Hidden" filter fails at system level after entering a subfolder and returning:

@roslof Well, check fps as well

I can create a new thread if desired, since this work is a bit off topic -- but for now, here we go:

First off, my theme is heavy, leveraging (among other things) one large 1160x1080 .jpg per system, and using roughly 80-90 systems.

VRAM LIMIT is set to 200Mb

I ran through the flow again (UI MODE from FULL --> KIOSK --> FULL) using the ES flow, and there is definitely a major performance hit during and after each subsequent load for the duration of the session.

      Most notable side affects:

Load times increase dramatically Navigation through the systems UI* eventually becomes uncontrollable, as the system continues to move through games, and player input is ignored FPS tanks during step #2 above

At idle, ES reports Tex Max increases dramatically:

At Boot: 626.99 After two (2) Swaps: 930.43

All other stats remain the same after swaps.

Also, at idle, using htop, some stats increase:

      VIRT: 899M --> 937M RES: 653M --> 687M CPU: 25.7% --> 32.2% MEM: 38.6% --> 40.6%

However, when hitting F4 to exit ES, then typing "exit" at console to re-launch ES, everything going back to original values. I believe using QUIT | RESTART EMULATIONSTATION also clears the performance problem.

Lastly, an early check indicates a similar, if not identical issue when switching ES Themes back and forth.

Again, hope this information is helpful.

@machtroid said in Installing a different version of Emulationstation:

So my question would be, if I install Emulationstation from this source, will it "hook up" to all of the places it needs to in retroarch (configs and such)

No, it will not - it won't even start, since it expects the Batocera filesystem layout and it won't be able to create/save the configuration file.
