FWIW, in short: it instructs the kernel to relax the USB protocol for devices that do not implement the USB HID spec by the letter, either because of poorly engineered/implemented firmware or the vendor did not foresee/test a specific setup (in this case connecting four devices of the same kind).

The hexadecimal numbers relate to <vendorid>:<deviceid>:<applicable quirk> (Links to kernel source code tree).

@d3r3kdrumm0nd please mark your initial post title with [solved] as a courtesy for other users who might face the same issue.

Is there a retropie theme with a tile grid layout similar to 'ckau-book' theme?

@CarlTheLooper There are several differences between batocera and retropie themes, despite they both run emulationstation.

Ckau-Book for example has animations when you select a system and you can't achieve this with es for retropie. I dont know why but you can't.

@rasp_renegade said in Good themes for vertical arcade cabinet:

I think I saw these but there is nothing to download just a bunch of links with flat files . ??? How do I download them and how would I add to ES?

@rasp_renegade looks like these aren't in the theme installer, so you'll have to clone them manually off the GitHub. Plug in a keyboard and press F4 to exit EmulationStation, or remote in from your favorite SSH client (I use the Termius app on my phone, or just type ssh pi@retropie.local in the search bar on my Win10 PC to use its built-in client. Connect as user "pi" to server "retropie.local", and the password is "raspberry" if you haven't changed it yet. You'll be presented with a security certificate the first time you connect to/from a particular pair, go ahead and accept this so you may continue.)

Either way, you should now be at a command prompt now that looks like:

      pi@retropie:~ $

Use the following commands to create and navigate to the themes directory and clone the GitHub repository there, using the first one as an example:

      mkdir -p ~/.emulationstation/themes cd ~/.emulationstation/themes git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/losernator/es-theme-ssimple-ve ssimple-ve

Adding the second "ssimple-ve" at the end clones it into that directory instead of one called after the repo with "es-theme-" in front. You can call it something else, if you want. Whatever you write after the repo URL will be the directory it's cloned into and that will be the name that's used in EmulationStation.

After it downloads, just type exit to either leave the terminal and return to ES, or to terminate the SSH session (or you can just close the app/window). You should now be able to select the theme ssimple-ve in ES's options menu (I can't remember, you might need to restart it first, if you were remoted in.)

@mitu no dice unfortunately with that article. I am going to purchase a 2nd control board to deal with this. Looks relatively simple to install.

Just to be safe. In the Retropie setup I can create a config.ini for the Skyscraper. Do I understand it correctly that all default values are used, except for those that I switch on or off via the config.ini? So, for example, if I want to scrape the PC ROMs but not the subdirectories, do I just write --nosubdirs in the config.ini and trigger the process and leave all other settings at the default value?

@mitu Ah thanks for the advice. Turns out I only have the Pi3 so even if I could somehow set up the thing to recognise I had a Saturn emulator on it, it's like you said it more than likely wouldn't run very well or even at all. And to think I spent all afternoon browsing the thing's files to try and find a backdoor. Oh well. Sticking to pre 1995 consoles for now it seems.

AARM and Skraper appear to be Windows Specific Applications

Yes, but that doesn't mean they can't run on Linux. For Linux, you can try Skyscraper, has a lot more flexibility than the built-in EmulationStation scraper.

The font in the message blurb is not set by theme, it's the default EmulationStation font - the size is not configurable.
It would be nice if the size would be bumped on smaller resolutions, could be a nice addition.

Thank you. This was caused by the environment though. I was booting into PIXEL desktop before launching EmulationStation. This configuration prevents quite a few things to function as expected.

@nohitter151 There is also a different way. ES has script callouts for some events: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/EmulationStation/#scripting

Put your scripts in your favorite language in the respective folder. Make them executable (chmod a+x <script>) and you should be ready to go. With the values of %rom_path% %rom_name% (first and second parameter inputted to your script you can locate the respective entry in the gamelist.xml which leads you to the artwork.

PS: Welcome to this forum :)

@shotokan the script maps the gamepad inputs to keyboard codes. The inputs used are ['left', 'right', 'up', 'down', 'a', 'b', 'x', 'y', 'pageup', 'pagedown'] and are mapped to the codes given as parameters.
      So left= kcub1, right= kcuf1, etc.
The parameter codes are given as terminfo values, listed in https://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/7908799/xcurses/terminfo.html.

[libretro WARN] Not an iNES file!
      [libretro INFO] FCEU_MakeFName: /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/disksys.rom
[libretro WARN] FDS BIOS ROM image missing!
[libretro WARN] An error occurred while loading the file.

It doesn't detect your rom file as a nes file, so it thinks it might be a fds file, for which you are missing the bios (it's not a fds game anyway, 10 yard fight was not released on fds). Your rom is probably corrupt, but if you are confident it's not then you can always try it with another nes emulator (nestopia or mesen are probably way better choices on a pi4 anyway since they are more accurate and pi4 should be able to handle them).
