retropie doesn't run on windows so i'm not sure why you're here :)

Well the windows port of EmulationStation seems to have been left behind a long time ago (save for the valiant efforts by @jdrassa, thanks a lot mate ), so this is the closest we poor windows users have to a home ;)

Thanks for the tip, will try it today. It's a pity there's no retroarch core addressing this, having all your config in the same place is a huge asset.

Thanks for that, I've tried the standalone and they work fine with no tinkering. I'm trying the high resolution one as default but it looks like I'll probably need to set alternatives for some roms, as they're a bit sluggish. Mario Kart 64 looks and plays really well though!

@jonnykesh At first I updated the standalone mupen64plus package from source but it didn't solve the problem so I updated the lr-mupen64plus package too.

In reddit someone wrote that it should work from now on with an update from the binarys.
I tried the mupen64plus update from binarys and now it works :D

There should be no library issue unless you do not use an official image or your RetroPie-Setup script is not up to date.

You can also do a binary update. I don't know how old this binary is but it should be newer.

Attempted to do a little more troubleshooting tonight. I'm still mystified as to what's going on, but at least now I have a better understanding of the problem.

After a little trial and error, I realized that InputAutoCfg.ini writes to mupen64plus.cfg, so anything I put in the former will overwrite the controller values in the latter. Thinking that perhaps whatever issue I was having was specific to Super Smash Brothers, I loaded up GoldenEye 64 also using Mupen64plus-gles2 emulator, and voila(!) the game seemed to be respecting my dead zone values. I had set them to essentially be maxed out, and sure enough I couldn't move the in-game cursor without moving the left joystick to the far edges of its range. I had similar results when I tried Mario Kart 64. I confirmed that I was seeing motion when a joystick value exceeded my deadzone threshold as displayed by jstest.

So I guess now the question becomes, why is Super Smash Brothers ignoring my dead zone settings, but the other two ROMs aren't? Oddly enough, there were a few times when I loaded up Super Smash Brothers and it DID seem to respect the dead zone settings--I had to move the joystick to an extreme to cycle through menu options--but there was no way I consistently get to exhibit this behavior. Is there a config file or something similar that's overriding whatever settings I'm specifying in the InputAutoCfg.ini and mupen64plus.cfg?

Open /opt/retropie/configs/n64/emulator.cfg and replace 640x480 with 854x480 and 320x240 with 427x240. Also open mupen64plus.cfg in the same directory and set the right aspect (16/9 or stretch) under section GLideN64.

not true. for example, GLideN64 was first released in 2015. it's still in development now (and is actually by the same developer of glide64mk2, so could be considered glide64mk3 i suppose)

Damned if I know what's causing it, but it's not just you!

If you put the section in, as in my post in the other thread, and load Rice HiRes, it does work, but as soon as you load Glide it seems to remove the section again.

@aron i got same on compiling mupen64plus (standalone) on Tinker with missing error from specific build folder
      /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/mupen64plus/mupen64plus-core/projects/unix
I ve added a copy of the libmupen64plus.so.2.0.0 in the folder over winscp just asap scriptmodule created the build subfolder(s) and it compiled fine without an error.
      Hope that work around helps
