Some mouse-only games are still setup to use just controllers and not the attached mouse/keyboard when you use the WHDLoad version. Populous, for example. I don't know what i need to do to unset that, so I can't make any suggestion for you on this either (if it's the case).

My only other suggestion would be to disconnect your controllers before firing up an amiga game and/or switch USB ports so that your mouse and keyboard are on the lower port numbers (0 and 1).

I just powered on my Pi to double check what you asked me to, Audio is set to HDMI in raspi-config and alsamixer shows a volume level of 100, but during boot up I noticed I had sound again.
The only change was a night of sleep, doubt it was that, and me swapping hdmi cables from my pi to my PS4 and back.
My tv is pretty old, so maybe it is messing up the edid?
I did make changes in config.txt that should force it to recognize the hdmi, but that didn't seem to help before.

Oh, when you're done, be sure to play Space Invaders - with sound and joystick control. Having spent 5 hours getting iti to work, you'll play for 20 seconds before realizing its too damn hard!

Yeah, hehe. Your thread prodded me to play SA for the first time in years, and it was too damn hard for me, too. 😮 😉

@metalhead I figured it out. For some reason the N64's volume level was way higher than all the other systems. So when I decreased the volume to 50%, I just couldn't hear the other emulators.

Such a dumb thing I overlooked.

Just had to adjust N64's config file.

      Thanks for your help!

can I please get very detailed advice on how to fix this issue? Thanks so much in advance.

Not unless you provide very detailed descriptions of your entire setup. That only makes sense, right?

Since no one chimed in I blew away my setup and started over moving step by step to identify where the audio broke.

The power button configuration was the culprit. The script worked for the power button perfectly powering on and off the Pi but killed audio from the Mifiberry AMP 2. Upon further researching the reason behind the issue was that the Mifiberry AMP 2 uses several GPIO pins to communicate between itself and the Pi3. Of course one of which is the same pin the power button configuration script uses.

I have since tried to modify the script to use a different GPIO pin (GPIO 5, pin 19). The script works to power off the Pi but not on. Further research told me that the script doesn't power on just off and that I can solder in a header or use pins 5/6 (GPIO3/GND) to power on the Pi. Given the Mifiberry, it looks like my only option is to use the header which is doable but I'd prefer to have only one power button that performs both power on and off functions.

Is there a way I can meet my goal via script, resistors, etc given what I have to work with, a long button press for off maybe? I thought about wiring the button to both the reset header pins as well as off function pins (19/20) but don't believe the Pi will know what to do with that input.

      Any ideas? Thanks

Here is the link to script I ran from. Here.

Here is the info from Mifiberry.

@bytethis right, and I changed the source of course to see the video. But it didn't work until I changed the pi from the HDMI2 on the back of my TV to the HDMI1.

      Boom, plenty of sound.

      Very happy!

      Thanks again,
      Paul

It's actually a really bad idea to modify a linux text config file with a rich text editor.
The best option is to use a linux text editor (vim, nano, ...), or a simple MS notepad (or better, notepad++).
You're lucky only the sound was impacted :)

@Hex If that is so, then great that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Indeed, most of my videos work perfectly fine, only a mere fraction make a black screen. I guess this issue will be put on the back burner for now.

Finally about the video audio, I found it in the audio settings (I think it was there all along..!). But might be nitpicky, but I wish there was a way to enable video sounds in the ES menu, but remove it in the screensaver. Really though, at this point, the option that is already there satisfies my needs for the most part.

Thanks, Hex, you were very helpful. :)
