The EEPROM is outside the OS, so changing the OS wouldn't have helped.
As I said, you'll need to use the stable version to get USB-MSD boot working, by default rpi-eeprom-update will use the critical update version - as you found out in your latest update.

@sirhenrythe5th I'm not an expert so I'm not sure. I would assume that would also require a better gpu as well. I mainly use the Pegasus front-end and that got a boost in speed when I switched from a pi3b+ to a pi4.

but if your heart is set on N64, PS2, PSP or Nintendo DS/3DS titles; the ODroid can handle that much better; while still running RetroPie through Ubuntu or via The Retro Arena distros.

Which Odroid model do you refer to here? (or maybe a better question: which odroid model handels these kind of games best?)

@diegomaradona21 said in Pi4 performance on Mame with CRT shaders:

ok thanks. I meant 2d games actually (maybe plus tekken and soul blade / edge but not a must). Is there any list of games supported by mame in 2003? or maybe which specific version of mame that is?

each version of MAME will have a corresponding gamelist.xml or dat file which contains the list of games it supports (however nothing about performance). there are compatibility lists linked in the retropie MAME docs but they are fairly broken right now (soon to be retired), and don't contain pi4 information.

soul blade and tekken's playstation versions will run great.

      any cooling needed?

i use the flirc case which acts as a heatsink. never had any overheating issues, but it depends on your room temperature, humidity, ventilation, etc.

It's an omxplayer limitation on the Pi4 - if the upstream package gets updated and supports OSD (subtitles), then it will be supported if Raspbian will include the updated version.

What I have to modify to have a better resolution?

Resolution is fixed, you can't change it. The only thing you can do is apply filters, which is exactly what your first screenshot is about : there is a blurry effect on it. It's probably retroarch's bilinear filtering, you can find it in retroarch menu : Setting > Video > Bilinear Filtering. Well, i think that blurry effect is horrible tbh, it feels like i need glasses, but i guess everyone has their own tastes.

@zering Possible but I'm no aware of anything that would make that much of a difference. Maybe a change in kernel. Scheduler or drivers.

Can you show an image of your hardware setup?
Instead of using a switch you could try and only short-circuit the switch pins on the PowerBlock with, e.g., a jumper. That should turn in the Pi.
      Does that change anything?

Hi all, so I'm trying to test openlara on a pi zero 2 w and have brought Tomb Raider 1 from gog as it's on sale. But it's an exe file and I don't have access to a windows machine. Is there any quick and easy way to extract the files from my pi? Or i'd need to install wine etc?

Can you tell me how I would need to modify the install script?

Which install script ? If you're referring to RetroArch, then try adding --enable-vulkan instead of --disable-vulkan in the build script to see if it works.

@challenger2010 A bit strange since the filesystem should be the same (ext4) in RetroPie 4.5 and 4.6 resp. Debian Stretch and Buster. But good to hear that your problem is gone. And thanks for sharing your solution.

I realized I can use my USB2-A meter to test the output from the USB2 ports. Problematic PSU causes it to have 5.3V and the better one has 5.1V. Hopefully it helps anyone else having problems with a stronger PSU.
