@johnodon Yeah, I was referring to pc.

On my overclocked Pi 3, I also use Mame2010. It is good enough to handle it. But that should not bother you. In fact, I have an third emulator for arcade games (fba), because there are a lot games working better. On PC, I just could use the newest version. But if your pc is a little bit old, then performance could still be a problem with some 3D titles.

      @mitu for sure

Hello @johnodon, good morning, how are you? Dear, please ask a question regarding the installation:

I have a small problem with my installation.
I use the Ubuntu server, running on a notebook with a processor:
      Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU at 2.30 GHz
After following the step-by-step configuration, I have detected this error when booting the system:

      "Last login: Monday, December 4 03:37:51 2023
There is no such key “default-show-menubar”
There is no such key “default-show-menubar”

      My version of Ubuntu is

      Description: Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS
      Release: 22.04
      Codename: jammy
I emphasize that when the system starts, the control image appears in the shape of a cupcake, then the error appears.
      What can this be?
      thanks

@mitu I see. I'm able to install Vice using Ubuntu app center. I wonder if I could copy binaries and libs to the /opt/retropie/emulators/vice ...

I believe that is still in the early stages of development. It's a promising project though.

Thanks a lot - yeah I thought i'd open an enhancement anyway as I did some reading and one of the Retroarch devs confirmed the SW and HW cores are identical, except the HW one has the additional options. Both are the same if you run in software mode:
      https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/7hxke8/psa_psx_beetle_hw_is_absolutely_amazing/dquv1jp/

So I figured it would probably be a useful enhancement enabling HW support at some stage - albeit I appreciate not high priority.

@psyke83 has kindly done a bit of work already to enable and i'm happy to test this out:
      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/2279

      Thanks again.

Yep completely understood, and that makes sense for the sake of keeping the releases as stable as possible. If I have time to test the Vulkan driver out I can always try to build from the master myself if there hasn't been a new release when I get round to it.

Thanks for the help as always.

      Cheers

@movisman good to hear you're going to go back to it!

In the end the e35 wasn't powerful enough and required legacy AMD drivers. I ended up with an ASRock AIO board rocking an Intel J3160 and it is flying.

After a huge amount of experimentation Linux Mint XCFE was my final distro. Light enough to keep performance high and startup times low but feature-full enough that I can back out of ES and use it for other things should the mood take me.

My RPi3 kinda got abandoned in the end due to hitting SD card limits or poor performance in PSX and 64 games so with this x86 install giving me that extra oomph, I'm fully invested again!

@danielmewhouse Thank you. But no, I'm not planning this. On the other hand: It's all OpenSource. Nothing hidden nor encrypted inside my installer. Take it as a template for your own ideas and feel free to realise whatever you want.

@mitu Installing the dependancies listed on the link you provided seems to gave done the trick. Thanks so much!

For those who are curious, I ran the following command as suggested by the Dolphin installation page (cut and pasted here for your convenience).

@charlie22911 You can try now to re-compile - do a fresh git clone/pull or a re-install from source in RetroPie. It looks like the last 2 commits fixed the compilation error - at least for me it compiles now, didn't try running anything through the core in the emulator.

Update for any future google searchers. I installed Ubuntu 16.04 and everything is working fine, I don't have a particular need to be on 17.04 but it would be nice to know why it is having issues for me. I'm still open to suggestions but in the meantime I’ll stick with 16.04 for now.
