    @alikatado88 i had a similar effect with a bad HDMI-Cable.
    Is the one you use with your 55" the same one that you used with the PC-Monitor?

    @YFZdude You are right that the N64 was released before the Dreamcast.
    But the development of the FF-Function in Input-Devices was initiated by SEGA for the Saturn, but came later with the dreamcast.
    Nintendo was the first to bring it to the market after copying the idea (similar to the development of the mouse-controlled interface, which was seen by Bill Gates & Steve Jobs at their neighbour XEROX in Silicon Vally back in the 70s :D)

    You can use the scripting support in EmulationStation to run a script when a game starts/stops. See here. You can call your display script when the game starts, then another one that clears the screen when it stops.

    [...] The background music fails to play in both enabled and disabled modes - and this message is displayed in the top corner of my screen:

    Nov 23 10:21:35 lv10: VolumeControl::init() - Failed to attach to default card!

    Out of the box, RetroPie doesn't have any background music functionality, is this a 3rd party script that's running ?

    .. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be hugely grateful.

    Are you using a 3rd party image or the RetroPie image from https://retropie.org.uk/download ? The official RetroPIe image doesn't have this issue and we don't support 3rd party images here in the forums.

    Please add the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first to be able diagnose this further.

    @dmmarti : Thank you for the hint, that was part of the solution that worked for me.

    I did notice, that settings are not permanent and was in luck to find the entry „Update Input Remap File“ in the table „MANAGE REMAP FILES“.

    @Floob : Thank you for the link to the documentation and mentioning necessary input_libretro_device_p3 settings.

    In another libretro discussion I also found settings for _p1:

    Input_libretro_device_p3 = „259“

    Now I can also use my xbox controller.
    For the „259“ setting, I couldn‘t find an explanation in the documentation. But now it works and I slowly start to understand what‘s necessary, to get other games running.

    @ all : Many thanks for your instant support and helpful input!

    @GameCodingNinja if you installed retroscraper.sh as I've shown, you should see a menu under retropie setup, optional packages, near the bottom, retrosctaper. Go to the configure option and it should be very easy to use.

    @mitu thank you very much once again!
    I updated RA yesterday, but will do again.
    Strange that this .info-file gets corrupt sometimes and by far more often it has to be ok (Ratio Games load: Games do not = 8:2).

    Thank you sir!

    FYI: RetroArch has been updated once more to 1.13.0 (visible in changelog, not on the homepage)

    @lostless Yep, the wireless router, PS5, pi, Nintendo Switch and smart TV are all within a couple meters of each other in the living room. Like I said, I didn't experience any issues using the pi upstairs. Thanks for your help here, I never would have considered that to be the issue.

    I might just have to go wired when using the pi in the living room as I don't have an option to move the wireless router.

    @mitu it's the macintosh folder, and here's the contents:

    -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 0 Nov 15 02:31 Desktop -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 209715200 Nov 20 11:22 disk.img drwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 131072 Nov 19 13:41 .finf -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 1048576 Sep 14 2010 mac.rom drwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 131072 Nov 19 13:41 .rsrc -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 0 Nov 19 09:18 start.txt

    Inside of the .finf directory appears to be a duplicate (symlinks?) of the macintosh directory:

    -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 32 Nov 20 11:22 Desktop -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 32 Nov 19 11:38 disk.img -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 32 Nov 19 11:38 mac.rom -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 32 Nov 19 13:41 start.txt

    Inside of the .rsrc directory has another Desktop and start.txt file:

    -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 321 Nov 18 23:32 Desktop -rwxrwxrwx 1 pi pi 0 Nov 19 13:41 start.txt

    I checked the start.txt files and they are both empty, so it must be in the basiliskii.cfg or other config file to dictate which backend it's using, and maybe if I'm lucky... I can manually define my resolution there? And maybe I can clean up the "start" listings and/or rename that? Can you point me somewhere to teach me about the use of start.txt files in RetroPie? I can't seem to find it in the docs.

    Can you please add the full details about your setup asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?

    Try running EmulationStation manually from the command line (after it crashes) with

    emulationstation --debug

    and post the last error shown on the screen when it crashes ? I still suspect there's a connection issue with the controller, the crash is usually indicating a bad connection (controller disconnects immediately after being detected).

    @wec777 Try running sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade before installing RetroPie again. Your problem looks similar to this issue, which seems to be a timing issue in the update list.
    RetroPie doesn't install any repositories, it uses the ones provided by your Linux distribution.
