This looks like the Mame2016 core, you might have enabled one of core options that start the MAME OSD menu.

    @mrditchy
So here I am six months later pleased to report that I finally have got this screen working. Kedei have changed the download page to https://kedei.net/download.html On a separate computer I downloaded the driver as a zip file, which I copied to a USB drive. I then copied the file to /home/pi (in RetroPie) I then unzipped it. This gave me a new directory called LCD_driver. I then did a chmod -R 777 LCD_driver. Despite the page on ali saying do not use FBCP driver I used it with the ./LCD35_fbcp command. The screen now works. I hope this post helps anyone who is having difficulty with this screen.

Never mind. It WAS working after all.

I had to use the quick menu to bump up the trackball sensitivity.

Once I did that, the game worked fine.

So RetroPie/EmuStation runs at whatever resolution is being suggested by the hdmi connection?
As its working fine at HD when I start the desktop instead.
Does emustation use a different graphics driver than the desktop?

EDIT: Ok - So its the actual raspberry pi board that is somehow at fault. Iv'e crosschecked the sd card with another pi4 I had and with the suspected monitor and it's definitely the first rpi.

@supermitsuba Maybe you installed optional or experimental emulators in your RetroPie 4.5?

Run the RetroPie setup script again and take a look at the optional and experimental packages available under "Manage Packages"

Update: I tried these instructions: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/53408/automatically-connect-trusted-bluetooth-speaker/76288#76288

Installed BaReinhard's repo and rebooted. I was able to connect to the AirPods when it launched back up and for a brief moment sound actually came through from youtube on the AirPods and I thought I may have fixed it, but then it cut out again after about two seconds. I'm getting the feeling that it connects and then gets disconnected almost immediately for some reason. Indeed, looking at bluetoothctl it seems to connect then disconnect to the devices immediately.

    E.g. it will say:

    sudo bluetoothctl
    Agent registered
    [CHG] Device D0:03:4B:ED:E5:20 Connected: yes
    [CHG] Device D0:03:4B:ED:E5:20 Connected: no
    [CHG] Device D0:03:4B:ED:E5:20 Connected: yes
    [CHG] Device D0:03:4B:ED:E5:20 Connected: no

in quick succession, continuing on with this "yes/no" pattern. It does not seem able to maintain a connection.

Don't know if that sheds any light on the problem.

@sirhenrythe5th I didn't know I was running a third party image. I was under the impression that I was running an old version of Retro Pie. My apologies.

It's both. It's a pre-installed image built a by a third party before it entered your possession (probably containing games and modifications). It's also an old version.

@mitu, greatly appreciate the reply and option. Thank-you!

It's probably a little over my head, but I'll dig in a bit.

Interesting question, I've been using a Pi 3B+ with a 32GB Class 10 Kingston microSD card, running Retropie 24/7 for more than two years. I've not experienced any trouble at all. Most of the time, the Pi is idle, between gaming sessions and using Kodi a few hours per day. Writing speeds and fsck reports look good too.

Besides the pictures and the seller's page, there's no much info about VGA666RGBs. They say it's compatible with Raspbian/RetroPie/etc., so I assume it works similarly to other GPIO analog video add-ons, using the standard vga666 'driver'.

For RGP-Pi, I remember it outputs RGB via Scart, so it might not be the first choice if your monitor has no Scart inputs. Not sure about the driver, though.

Almost all updated overnight. I still seem to be having problems with MAME and MESS updating. Is this an upstream thing I should leave and come back to later?

I see this post is a little old, but I have exactly the same problem. Did you find a solution in the end?

I have read the posts above and will try out the suggestions, but I was hoping that "scaping" would automate the process so that I did not have to manually download or re-code all those videos.

FYI - Raspberry Pi 4B 1GB Retropie 4.7.4 - Scraped with Steven Self’s optional scraper package.
