At the risk of you guys either laughing or scoffing at me a bit, the issue I was having is gone. I had the system freeze problem for about a month before I finally called for help on the forum, and it literally stopped happening basically as of yesterday. I will definitely look at the system log should it happen again.

To retain the bezel configuration and the ability to run with verbose logging I have moved the bezel configuration into a game .zip.cfg file.

input_overlay = "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/overlay/GameBezels/SNES/Super Mario World (USA).cfg" config_save_on_exit = "false"

Thanks guys - I managed to create another SD card image and used an SD reader to access the faulty one so at least I've rescued all my content!

@dankcushions well thanks you for assisting me with this one. I eventually got it working by using the USA Rom and, as you suggested, stretching the image to 5:4. it fills the whole screen and looks good. I'll be happy with that solution for now. Happy Holidays.

Can you enter the RetroArch menü? (normally via Hotkey + X) Then it might be this problem with the Multitap settings.

If not, we'll need the information markyh44 asked about.

P.S.: I guess you're German, right? Then just a friendly advice: You can't translate "spinnen" (acting crazy) with "spinning" (drehen). It makes your sentence above sound a little weird. 😉

ah ok i just figured to try to be helpful. and such as it be good like a section for guides and then shows if you have teh Nespi 4 then you do this

but thats cool.. i didnt know there was documentation really and figured why not post a guide for the Specific nespi 4 unit so people had an exact step by step what to do to set it up

@mitu Compile ffmpeg in due course because attractmode. I have recompiled / updated it adding the parameter --extra-ldflags = "- latomic" .
And now if I have been able to compile retroarch, I have even installed version 1.9.0.

Everything works great now :)

@buzz oh wow I would never have considered the multi tap options as they've never affected it before! That worked better than expected, now I've got analog on psx that I've never ever been able to get working. Thanks for your help!

@mitu used all the resolutions but they had the same issue. I fixed it by making the bars smaller and modifying some code. Here is what i did. Reference if someone comes with same problem.

I named them gamelist_outline_smaller.png and gamelist_background_smaller.png

Uploaded this files to my pi on /etc/emulationstation/themes/snes-mini/art
then modified the setup xml with

sudo nano /etc/emulationstation/themes/snes-mini/layouts/setup.xml

replaced both paths with the new images like this example

<image name="gamelist_background" extra="true"> <path>./../art/gamelist_background_smaller.png</path>

since my resolution is using 4x3 i went and

sudo nano /etc/emulationstation/themes/snes-mini/layouts/4x3setup.xml

i replaced gamelist outline so it alignscorrectly, with this code

<image name="gamelist_outline" extra="true"> <origin>0.5 0.5</origin> <pos>0.7055555555555556 0.5</pos>

and done

Hi @w0nderw0rm , did @mitu ‘s solution allowed you to use just the Xbox One controller, or the solution also allows you to use the Nimbus Steelseries?

I just started researching which controller to order that would work best for RetroPie AND Apple Arcade on iPhone, and it looks like the Steelseries Nimbus+ is a great controller (but I’m not sure it works with RetroPie).

Is there a better controller I should consider?
Maybe the 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ ?

I hadn't thought of configuring the trackball to actually be the spinner.

@mitu Thanks. I found out that I can record N64 using the retroarch menu and setting Use GPU Recording to on (although it is extremely choppy and unplayable). Does someone know what is the ffmpeg option equivalent to the retroarch Use GPU Recording to put in the custom recordconfig file? I tried hwaccel = auto but it does not seem to work.
