@SaturnX said in Adding 2xUSB Gamepads to Arcade Setup for P3/P4?:

What’s the best approach for this such that I don’t muck up my controller settings?

There's not much to do besides connecting the controllers and configuring them in EmulationStation. The only caveat is the controller order - it's possible the external controllers to switch places with the encoders and replace the P1/P2 slots, but if you don't keep the external gamepads connected all the time it's not going to be a problem.

I’m concerned that I’ll mess up the controller configurations and I don’t have a complete understanding of how controller configuration files are set behind the scenes.

Generally the configuration files are matched based on the controller name, unless your external gamepads are also named DragonRise, ... (highly unlikely), configuration files will not be a problem.

Also is it possible to limit the 4p setup to just select games? Is that even necessary?

It's not necessary, you just have to pay attention to the games that have 4p/2p versions and not start the 2p when playing with 4 controllers by mistake (like TMNT / Sunset Riders / etc.).

How about we wait until the Pi5 is out, ok ? If you want to speculate, use the main Pi5 topic that's pinned.

@LLD said in Radiant Silvergun on Pi 4:

Could @roslof provide specific advmame settings if that's the case ? Or could it be that advmame changed since the edition of the sheet and gives now poorer performance for that game ?

Well, I can say that as of now, I also cannot get the game to run with either 2x or 3x magnification.

This is a Sega Titan game. It doesn't run well with any system, but still runs best with AdvMame. I've never had great success with the audio either. Always sounds "tinny" on the Pi4 builds, and why I have it at the bottom of the "recommendations" totem pole.

@windg & @mitu you spotted it. It's the image on the front door.
I was mounting the vinyl with the door on my workbench and did not realize that it was 180 degrees rotated. Bummer!
Moving the hinges to the other side is unfortunately not easy for several reasons, so I have decided to order another printed piece of vinyl and cover it again.
    Waiting to be delivered ...

Yes, you are right. I solved the problem by turning one joystick.
    Thanks for your help.
The remaining question is: why do both controller as wanted before the first start?

For anyone running an older version of RetroPie, this game successfully installed on 4.3 for me. Note that I ran the normal install process but then had to manually move the install script module from ext to scriptmodules/ports, and then install like a normal port from within RetroPie to complete. The keymapper is indeed buggy, using it with my Xbox 360 controller corrupts the Dpad mapping for the game. So you basically have a choice between accepting the default mappings or losing Dpad support (with the game still being playable via the joystick). FYI, I tried @Lolonois' script but it errors out because of missing dependencies related to my older 4.3 install.

Regardless, this is a frantic and fun game...definitely worth checking out!

@lostless That's great news. I have come across numerous articles about changing the button config for certain games, but I didn't know you could change the controllers for certain BIOS. Thank you very much!

@antsgamingau Additionally to retropie's arcade documentation, you might want to read the more detailled libretro's arcade documentation.

@Floob Thanks! & Interesting indeed it is... especially that it also falls back to what I may call classical/true retro titles within the "of all time" question and is in no case (so far) mentioning "truly" inovative or otherwise noteworthy titles which may not have been among the best, but are memoriable on their own accord (sidenotes/anectodes a human writer may have opted for to supplement/beefing up the answer). Somehow I got the feeling that a) answers of other versions of this question are somewhat anticipatable and that with more questions/answers to compare they will feel more and more generic instead of genuine ones ;)

For what it's worth, I bought one of these SJ@JX controllers on alix, and it wasn't detecting as a USB gamepad (or wasn't working at all).

I download and ran the .exe that @bryantjblair shared and it's now working and detecting as I'd expect.

Set the display to 800x600, but no dice, it seems like it possibly won't display at that res. Everything still says 640x480 (fbset, tvservice)

So i've turned off integer scale, and that did the trick. It's not exactly perfect, the pixels are a little fuzzy. But it's acceptable for now until I figure out more stuff I can try with the Pi config.txt stuff.

    Thanks for the help!!

    wow thanks, much appreciated.
    I'll check the BIOS advice.

Hm, the 90001 values is from an EV_MSC input, which is a button or joystick input, I don't think it needs to be mapped.
According to this issue, the "EG Starts Arcade" kit should be supported automatically. There's even a .cfg file posted there.

Maybe the launcher is trying to configure your keyboard instead of the controller ? Have you tried starting a MakeArcade game with only the controller kit connected ?

If that doesn't work, you may try open an issue on @Vegz78's repo, I unfortunately have no experience with the MakeArcade setup - I just know they've been working to make this work as seamless as possible in RetroPie and other gaming oriented projects (Recalbox and Batocera).
