@alphabetapie said in How Many Bios Do I Really Need?:

Looks like I'm good on bios as-is, as Saturn, PSX and Sega CD are the only ones I need. However, it did say that the NES emulators need disk bios. But I assume that's because they also emulator Famicon Discks? And if I'm just using regular American NES roms, I should treat that as an "optional" bio like the rest that list it this way?

ya, that's right - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-Entertainment-System/#bios - only required for FDS games

      Extremely helpful, as always! Thanks!

A head ache, but now I know what's wrong and feel like I wasted your time lmao. Thanks again, I think I know what's going on, now. Maybe that the corrupt images are making the emulator default to the hle bios

It's not a waste of time if we find out what's the cause.
Regarding the SSD issue, it might not be the cable, but the USB/SSD controller. There is an extensive topic in the Raspberry Pi forums about it, including workarounds and ways to diagnose it.

And make sure you are not trying to play a Dreamcast WINCE game ... because they won't work in any Dreamcast Emulator in the Raspberry Pi.

@Zering said in Neogeo - Problems - Hours wasted.:

Your bios is all wrong for neocd, you should have a neocd.zip and a neocdz.zip and they should not be in a separate folder. I'll have to check later but they should be in your BIOS directory.

No, as i said, you are trying to launch games for 1 system (neogeo pocket games) with an emulator for another system (lr-neocd, which emulates neogeo cd) while using the bios for a third system (neogeo mvs/aes). You need to decide on 1 system.

If it's for your father, you can never go wrong with neogeo aes/mvs, which was the dream console for anyone from my generation. Neogeo cd was the "cheap" version of that console, and while emulation cancel its main drawback (loading time), the graphics are still inferior to the mvs/aes and the games use more storage, so i don't recommend it. Neogeo pocket was a handheld, and a niche one.

Documentation about neogeo emulation is there : https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Neo-Geo/ . You'll have to read all of it and the linked documentation specific to the emulator you'll chose, otherwise i think you can give up on neogeo emulation.

update retropie-setup script, then install lr-gpsp from source.

Fantastic, took a while, but that's fixed it!

      Welcome to this forum. 👋

      See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#bios

While both lr-pcsx_reamrmed and PCSX-ReARMed have an emulated BIOS to fall back on, it has limited compatibility so most games will have issues running with it (or not work at all), and all games that use memory card saves are prone to save corruption. It should be considered mandatory to manually install an official BIOS.

I found out that the problem is caused by shader I applied to all liberto emulators,
      I guess Atari800 emulator doesn't like shaders.
Disabled it for this specific emu and it's working now!
      Thank you mitu for answer.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've got a handful of working games and I'm happy with that for now. I have far more on my Linux tower RetroPie build that is more fit for this kind of thing.
