      [SOLVED]
      What was causing the issue was the ps3 bluetooth drivers, which I realized were disabling the standard bluetooth on the device.

      Thanks to this thread: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=148305&start=100

      The solution was to simply uninstall the PS3 drivers from the retropie_setup menu.

      OK guys, I solved this one - eventually got the gamepad to connect via usb by trying different ports. Wouldn't work with the bluetooth dongle plugged in, but did without. Then plugged the dongle in, and searched for devices - was able to pair with the plugged in snes30 control (?) and then pair the nes30 control on second attempt. Tried a reset and everything is great!

      Strange that it wouldn't let the wired keyboard take me to the gui, but it's done now.

      For anyone that wants to disable onboard bluetooth and use a dongle... the above config entry is good.

      @G2bb

      While there are a few good ways to make a standard controller be seen as a keyboard, I don't know of anything that would do the reverse. There's a proposed way to do it with xboxdrv, but the project hasn't been touched since late 2015. However, seeing as how all these emulators and ports are first and foremost computer software, they all have keyboard support that can even be a bit more versatile in many cases.

      Using RetroArch as a jumping off point, if you can determine which keys are assigned to which buttons, the controls can be added manually to /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg. Below is an example of my setup that you can use as a reference.

      input_player1_a = "a" input_player1_b = "b" input_player1_y = "y" input_player1_x = "x" input_player1_start = "t" input_player1_select = "e" input_player1_l = "l" input_player1_r = "r" input_player1_left = "left" input_player1_right = "right" input_player1_up = "up" input_player1_down = "down" input_player1_l2 = "d" input_player1_r2 = "f" input_player1_l3 = "c" input_player1_r3 = "v" input_player2_a = "k" input_player2_b = "m" input_player2_y = "o" input_player2_x = "n" input_player2_start = "num9" input_player2_select = "num0" input_player2_l = "p" input_player2_r = "q" input_player2_left = "g" input_player2_right = "h" input_player2_up = "i" input_player2_down = "j" input_player2_l2 = "s" input_player2_r2 = "u" input_player2_l3 = "w" input_player2_r3 = "z"

      Thanks for the reply. I just tried with a second controller, but while the SteelSeries controller is connected it seems to affect all other inputs. I can't seem to control anything until I disconnect the SteelSeries one.

      The only controllers that I have been able to get working are the keyboard, and a wired controller. My goal was to get a pair of bluetooth controllers working, I just haven't had much luck yet.

      @the-owner

      In game I cannot push two button simultaneously

      The problem seems to be that you didn't turn on the ipega with X+Home and it's conflicting with your keyboard. Does this problem happen in other emulators?

      I have no button to quit the game to main menu.
      Firstly, Is it possible to take a combination of button and how is it coded ?

      The default is start+select.

      Secondly, maybe there is a line to add in "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/CONTROLLER-NAME.cfg" in order to add this action (quit a game to main menu) ?

      That config file affect RetroArch only and the quit option is already there (default is start+select). I don't know how to config input for N64...

      EDIT: check the docs and you'll find valuable info.

      Update: Installed the newest firmware for the controllers (4.0), whereas apparently I was previously on 2.65 or something like that.

      One controller works and the bug even seems to be fixed.

      The other controller now won't connect to Retropie at all.

      Edit: Took me like an hour of fiddling but both controllers now connect properly and the save state bug is gone! Had a devil of a time getting Retropie to let me register and connect both pads at once for some reason.

      Thanks for the suggestion to update the firmware, I had completely forgotten that I had done it when I first got the pads and I honestly wouldn't have thought a small Hong Kong company like 8BitDo would keep working on new firmware updates for so long - pleasantly surprised to be wrong. At least in the end the fix turned out to be relatively simple!

      Yeah I got mine as well and besides no random button presses, the controllers are also much more responsive, which made me forget about really needing wired controllers for certain games!

      Ok so I just played for a couple of hours with no freezes at all using the same PS3 controller but wired instead of Bluetooth, looks like that might be my problem, but I thought the PS3 bluetooth freezes were fixed unless I have missed a step or done something wrong
