We've all been there. In fact I just recently was scripting some batch file operations and introduced a space after something that broke it all. Gotta love those facepalm moments.

Thanks, my idea basicly is having a GUI to redirect all my roms to the best emulator, and if is open source is always better :)

You've probably modified one of the start-up services which you shouldn't have. Post the contents of /etc/profile.d/10-retropie.sh file from your system.

@stuckinthe90s You are using a disposable email address which is bouncing. Please switch to a working non disposable address or I will have to remove/disable your account.

The dot at the beginning of a directory name will be hidden by default on a Linux box I believe. (" . es" would be hidden. "es" would not.) That may help you track down more files.

No, there is no option for the built-in EmulationStation scraper to change the download location. If space is a concern, then you can symlink the downloaded_images folder to a folder on the external drive.

@simpleethat thanks for the info. Yeah, they are both 16x9, 1080 is 1920x1080 and 720p is 1366x768. I think everything is set to 1920x1080 on my pi currently. Hoping to find out if I have to change any settings to step down to 1366x768 (720p) for proper framing?

I tried to install it yesterday, but I run into some problems I havent figured out yet.... But I've seen people successfully installing this solution.

@misanthrope whenever i have had issues with those controllers i have uninstalled and reinstalled the xpad drivers. also make sure what mode the switch on the front of your controller is set to

This feature is not supported, ES doesn't do any XML pre-processing, it just reads the node value as is.

@emrecaglar if you need any help to set it up please let me know - I went through some of problems with this combo (it's a bit more problematic than RetroPie for Pi :)).
For sure you can change priviliges for config files as you won't be able to save any config in RetroArch:

sudo chmod -R 777 /opt/retropie/configs/

Please just be mindful that this way you give access to this files and folders to EVERYONE which means that if someone connects to your computer then it has full access to all files and folders in this path.
In my case it does not matter as I don't have constant network access to this device (it sits in arcade cab with no lan/wifi) so not much of a deal for me :)

Nobody here (of consequence) will hold your inexperience against you. It's just that most beginners' answers are already covered in the very comprehensive documentation of this site. In your case, the link that @dankcushions gave you leads to a page with a section called "Boot to EmulationStation“ which for its part links to the FAQ with exactly the instructions you ultimately needed.

A typical approach of many veterans not only in this community is to help others at helping themselves by pointing them in the right direction, but at the same time expecting them to do the (usually manageble) learning by themselves.

Just trying to calm the waves a little. Welcome to this forum, and have fun with RetroPie. 😁

true but some people don't know how to create a .sh as I've said I don't know how this should be in implemented but it would be nice to be able to see your achievements when you're hovering over the game in ES

@YFZdude So I was able to get SSelph's scraper to work, but after a while, it started giving me "hash not found" errors and a "panic: runtime error". I've been searching for solutions for this, but I've found next to no information on the issue and the github page doesn't seem to be active. I'm gonna try Skraper and see if that gives me better results.
