Sorry for providing hints into wrong direction. I must admit I did not follow the portable devices section of Nintendo HW well.

Well, actually after some more research, as of the current version, the 0.11, there si no way to do this, but only when restarting a game already launched, instructions are in the official github project page here.

The mappings for N64 are described in the emulators doc page - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-64/. If you wish to change it, you can either use RetroArch's input remapping for the lr-mupen64/lr-mupen64-next emulators or editing the InputAutoCfg.ini for the standalone mupen64plus emulator.

@superfella said in So this clearly isn't good:

I still seem to have access to the files on the card, so what do I need to back up before I install a new image?

If it's only the boot partition, that won't help.

(People always say "back up your data" as if that's any sort of help. What does it actually MEAN? Will the contents of the home>pi>RetroPie>roms and opt>retropie>configs folders be enough to basically get me back to where I was?)

Thank you, by any chance do you know a different bluetooth controller that's cheaper than this?

I don't see why not. I do everything on Manjaro Linux with no issues. I'd have thought a Chromebook would be much the same. Never used one though.

      @kurnis

please fill out https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first when seeking support.

you're on the right track - you need to edit the file. this is the way to change the hotkey combos.

I have tried the file manager in retropie but when I put in sudo nano /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/Microsoft X-box 360 pad.cfg
      the file comes up blank.

wrong path. it will be within /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig

what is returned if you input the following into the command line?
      ls -l /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig

i am guessing your path is

      /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig/Microsoft\ X-box\ 360\ pad.cfg

note you need slashes for files with spaces in them, or you can surround the whole path with quotes)

also, you shouldn't use for sudo for this kind of thing. no need.

@dankcushions I wanted to also ask you what type of controller you use with your pi when you play MAME (and FBA & CPS games). Is it wired or wireless? What specific controller works best with arcade games?

The reason I ask is the way they designed the pi is awkward with the ports not giving us a traditional front or back so I don’t wanna fool with wires bending over the console.

How did you 'downloaded' ? If you've used the binary install, you'll get Mame 0.229 and lr-mame based on the 0.229 MAME version.

@emulatre71 @windg thanks for chiming in, yeah I actually do already have the F310 and am a fan for the most part (I did find the fact that you couldn't seem to program the Mode button on Retropie a bit disappointing, but that was before I knew that the Logitech logo was itself another button).

That F710 is a bit more expensive but I may look into that if I want a PS2-style wireless controller. Bluetooth would be ideal, but if indeed the Pi has issues with bluetooth devices I may just have to either get a USB hub (although I've heard that there can be issues powering them/that one might need to get one w/ an external power source, which could be kinda a hassle) and plug the 4th controller's dongle into that, or simply have to unplug the keyboard if we're playing a 4-player+ game.
