      @BuZz Thanks a million for your help! I ended up installing the latest elementary OS 0.4 Loki, updated the Retropie-Setup script and voila!
      Thanks once again!

      Kind regards,

      I tried this script but it is not stable and the emulation returns to the 1st screen

      #!/bin/bash

      This script will run a program in fullscreen mode (no borders or title bar etc) on a second monitor. It can used for many programs and on either the primary or secondary monitor

      #This is the executable file or path
      PROGRAM='emulationstation'

      This is the output of wmctrl -l for the program that we are using

      NAME='emulationstation'

      This is the device name of the monitor we want to display the program on

      DEVICE='HDMI-1'

      If you want the program to be fullscreen on your second monitor this variable should be the width of your primary monitor

      PRIMARYWIDTH=1920

      Run the program , then wait a bit before carrying on If your program doesn't load in time then try increasing this value

      $PROGRAM > /dev/null 2> /dev/null & disown && sleep 3

      Set the Open GL environment variables Set the vertical blanking to on

      __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=1

      And make sure OpenGL syncs the correct monitor

      __GL_SYNC_DISPLAY_DEVICE="$DEVICE"

      Do we want a screensaver

      #SDL_VIDEO_ALLOW_SCREENSAVER=0

      Set the dimensions of the program in the monitor

      wmctrl -r "$NAME" -e '0,'$PRIMARYWIDTH',-1,-1,-1'

      Maximize it

      wmctrl -r "$NAME" -b toggle,fullscreen,maximized_vert

      Ignore that - I misunderstood (And the PS3 controller does work ok in Ubuntu 16.04 unlike I said above - I just had to configure it by holding the playstation button it seemed).

      You mean it's fine in ES and games, just no good in the retropie-setup menu ?

      It works - it's just it doesn't use the same mapping. Left analog moves, and select will choose an option. This will be resolved at some point in the future, but the menus were never originally designed for navigating via joypad - it was added later via joystick to keyboard mapping. Since it;s mostly configuration and you are on a PC, it's not a big deal to use a keyboard to configure if you don't like the ps3 mapping.

      @obsidianspider well if you think about it you're using a computer... To emulate a computer... To emulate another computer ;) emulatorception! lots of overhead processing there. But glad it's at least functional :)

      For anyone who might want to give this a try: I just picked up a used Dell Chromebook 13 and with GalliumOS on it, RetroPie installed using the Ubuntu instructions very easily.

      0_1483131403252_galliumos-retropie.jpg

      Things run very well, though GalliumOS seems to want to turn on the screen saver even if I'm using my USB controller. The workaround was to go into the power manager and enable "Presentation Mode" so the screen doesn't dim.

      The more i play with my Ubuntu up board the more I really like my pi3 to be honest it's cheaper and better less bugs and just all around runs better

      You can get better performance if you do like Windows based emulators and turn up the detail but you are then limited on space. Sick with a pi 3 it's the best platform for retropie right now.

      @backstander

      I have a raspberry pi 3, and it turns out that same problem;

      I can't install ppsspp from binary, just from source;

      binary is locked on Setup screen and nothing happens;

      source displays the error mentioned above;

      This also happens when I try to install the emulated on the Dreamcast;

      but Dreamcast worked installing via source;

      Sorry i don't speak English!!

      @leejsmith @Twitch0815

      The AMD driver download at http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/embedded?os=Linux x86_64 will not work on Ubuntu 16.04

      AMD's proprietary Catalyst driver (called fglrx) is not compatible with the Xorg shipped in Ubuntu 16.04 or later. AMD are no longer updating Catalyst for Linux so this proprietary driver is no longer an option.

      The only option available is to use the open source driver (called radeon) which is already included.

      There is a newer AMD driver framework upstream (called amdgpu) which has both open source and proprietary options, but it does not support the older HD8000-series in the Gizmo 2 (nor does it support the HD6870 I'm running in my desktop PC).

      The free radeon driver used to be fairly terrible, but it's quite good these days. Current performance on the Gizmo 2 (and my PC) is as good as it's going to get on Ubuntu 16.04 onwards.

      The only way I can see to maybe get better performance is use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and the proprietary embedded driver linked above, but I don't know if that's possible with the Gizmo 2, nor if RetroPie will still compile on older Ubuntu releases.

      Found the solution to this by uninstalling it from Retropie and terminal using cmd

      sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove kodi

      and than installing latest using the following cmd

      sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
      sudo apt-get update
      sudo apt-get install kodi

      everything as it should be now :)
