      @classicgmr So the stick has been 100% RELIABLE.

      it does get pretty warm but nothing crazy, I can grab it with my hand( my right hand not my left hand) and say " ooohh that's warm", but it never heats up enough to cook my imaginary girlfriend pancakes. It's a solid drive for a Low Profile drive which is perfect for this portable gaming system. No worries in the heat department unles every degree counts, and then maybe ou should do some research.

      What I did dislike was while it was PERFECT for my setup profile-wise, the transfer speeds are poor. I have a Kingston HyperX from two or more years back that performs the same as a modern 3.0 hard drive. 100MB/s either way. Not mbs, MB/s. So this drive wasn't great n the transferring category.

      If I had everything set, and didn't use it as an experimenting USB drive, it would have been fine. Basically, It's awesome for the look, and I am keeping it as my travel drive, as I am replacing it with a higher performace PC compatible drive but it does perfect for only needing rare updates.

      Just my 2 cents and I wanted to update the thread.

      @timekills Thanks for that! Even after 13 years of Linux, I didn't know of this program. For others who might be interested, here's a more elaborate guide about progress:

      Running with ROMs from an external drive - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/. If you remove the drive, then the system will read the ROms from the SD card. Kids mode - you can toggle Kids mode in Emulationstation, the frontend for the listing the games, and only games with the 'Kid Mode' flag will be shown, see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Child-friendly-EmulationStation/#ui-modes

      @downup

      The closest thing is setting all_users_control_menu = "true". However, this would obviously mean that all users would be able to control the menu and not just player three. However, you could unbind the controller mappings for all RetroArch functions and map them solely as keyboard keys. Then players one and two wouldn't have access from the controllers, but anyone using a keyboard would.

      If you unzip them, the file extension will tell what they are.
      Check out the docs, but each emulator eats different file extensions, like Megadrive = .md, MasterSystem = .sms - this could get you some of the way I guess.

      @sano

      i had to chown my permissions back but this is now solved. windows powershell format and partition to fat32 on my drives originally as the guide was fat32 then changing to ext4 and it seems that when i was doing the new partitioning it just wasn't taking effect for some reason but this is now solved.

      thank you sano and shadowron

      i've been banging my head on the desk for a week trying to understand linux commands and forcing myself to learn a new OS.

      @cyber92 Create a new topic, but I suggest searching the forums first for a similar problem and reading the PS1 page in the docs - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/.

      @buzz I know it works via the wifikey file, but in this case there was no controller or keyboard working and I was referring to the next section (Connecting to Wifi Without a Keyboard (Raspbian Stretch)) where it's possible to configure wifi directly via the wpa_supplicant.conffile on the /boot partition

      @kikinaak https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#runcommand-launch-menu - press any buttons during the ROM start and choose to run with verbose logging, repeat the steps to reproduce the problem, then look in the log file (/dev/shm/runcommand.log).

      @usarmyvet said in NOOBS distro scraper issue and game saves:

      However, I now run into the issue where when I attempt a scrape, it kicks me out of emulation station and into terminal and says "no space allowed" . I was told its because its a NOOBS distro?

      Update all installed packages and try again. You might be using an older version of Emulationstation.

      @jonnykesh I meant @rbaker. The TO got it right IMO, talking about transferring ROMs to the USB drive and linking to the right docs for that.

      @caver01 @edmaul69 The Fn plus F-key is how the keyboard is designed to work, so just changing the kb type will make it function as designed. It needs to be adjusted to get "normal" PC behaviours.

      This sounds like it belongs in Help & Support.

      Also, please read and post the details requested here:
      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

      Once you create your usb with roms to copy(not as a supplemental drive) you can technically use it over and over on any Retropie system as it only copies from the USB to the sd card/drive.

      @retroprogrammer said in Can you solder USB ports to RaspberryPi USB ports:

      ...because I was thinking of maybe taking apart my Original Xbox and making it into a case but the USB ports on the raspberry pi wouldn't reach the front of the Xbox and even if it did it would look good, because the Xbox has four separate Xbox-USB ports.

      Sometime ago i've done something similar to this, but with USB extensor like this one:

      0_1513190116106_usb.jpg

      Doesn't need to solder, just plug and be happy XD

      Are the controllers working if you test them with jstest /dev/input/js0 or jstest /dev/input/js1 from the command line ?
